Sorry for posting here but I got lucky once for another car (non-prowler) on this forum figured try again since I see so many exotics in your signatures. We are interested in a Lamborghini Gallardo or a Ferrari 360 (convertible or not doesn't matter), but here is the kicker... DON'T WANT TO PAY ABOVE STICKER...possible? Any suggestions? A used 360 is okay to if good condition and reasonable price.
I have seen a couple people list 360s in their signature did you all pay above sticker?

thanks
bob

If you visit an authorized dealer, I believe most will sell you a new one (YOU ORDER) at sticker. Some have new ones on the showroom floor, you will pay a premium if you have to drive it home today.

A used low mileage 360 will cost more then a new one (ordering)

Wait time for new ones is in years.

http://www.symbolicmotors.com/ they have a shop in Beverly Hills and San Diego(been there), these people take great pride in having the best on the planet, just don't buy it before Xmas, could cost you 5 - 10k, they have a nice selection of Preowned.

Please tell us what you get.......

The Gallardo suffers from blocky wedge styling reminiscent of the 1980's. Might as well get a slammed nissan pulsar and save the dough.

Go for the 360. It has way more cool factor

Sticker for new 2004 ranges from $153,182 - $192,974
from the 2 door coupe to the Challenge Stradale.
Add $11K to any model for the F1 paddleshift option.

A new F1 spider (~$186,000) is going for $245,000
on the dealer showroom floor locally.

I've been checking into the 360 conv myself and their at 250. I've seen some used ones in the Robb report for 219. Goto the AutoGallery I go by there all the time and check them out. Symbolic has a lot of them.See them all the time there.

Thank you all but already tried pretty much all these routes. even ordering a new one, they tell me wait time is 4-5 YEARS. I am willing to wait 8-9 months to save the $$ but 4-5 YEARS? wow!!
As far as the auto gallery, they had the Ogner dealership ferrari rep taken away from what I heard b/c of price gouging, but even right now they have a new one which the salesman said "not ours, 68 miles, customer wants a $50,000 premium".
I actually work right next to symbolic in beverly hills, nice people but greedy. There was a private party one I had asked them whether is a good deal and where I could have it checked out, I guess it was a good deal they bought it from under me...then marked it up for sale $37,000...but would give me a discount (mark up of only $22,000) pretty neighborly.
So that is why I thought I would ask, I guess supply v. demand BUT there is a load of them out there, symbolic has about 12 used ones, auto gallery 15, and blach horse also and they still go used for about the same as new. Hope the same thing happens with our prowlers soon, just dont sell till we get the price we want (if sell at all).

any other suggestions besides biting the bullet.. we dont want to give in.

thanks
bob

You hit the nail on the head, PD. The key is if you can wait 4-5
years. To me, no car is worth over sticker. If you buy a used one
for $250K, you probably won't recoup your loss. If you order one
at sticker ($186K) you can either sell it immediately for $250K
or drive it for a few years, sell it, and STILL make money.

The choice is clear to me.

This won't help with this purchase but, something to think about. I've got friends that always buy 2 of the same car everytime they order them. They stagger them a few months apart and change the color and equipment slightly but, they are essentually the same car. When the first comes in, they drive it till the second arrives then sell either the first or the second for a handsome profit (for the folks that want one today and can't wait).
They constantly look for new and hot car models that are coming out (mostly exotics and all foreign) and repeat the process time after time again.

Thnks YF, I thought about it too but the sales tax would kill me. Do they have a dealers license? Besides, I cant even afford it alone, but I have been wanting a Ferrari since I was 8 years old. I am 30 now and my dad sat me down the other night and told me "listen, if you don't get the car now, you never will once you get married". Then it hit me, he is probably right, so me and my dad and 3 brothers are all chipping in to get one.
Besides, when the car is hot even if you order one you wont get it since the dealers are too busy flipping the cars, they say "your car is not in yet". This even happened with the SL mercedes we had on order till a law suit was filed.

oh well I will keep looking or not get married for a while

thanks
bob

There's one other way of going around the sales tax. Buy it in canada. Keep it register over there, that's what I'm looking into right now.

If you buy it in Canada, don't you have to get plates in Canada? Is your insurance Canadian? Where do they send the bill for the Canadian insurance? What do you do when you are in an accident and the car is registered in Canada and your driver's license is from MI or NY or whereever?

I seem to remember there being some issue with warranty work on grey-market Ferrari's imported from out of the US. I'm not 100% sure though. I do know they are valued less in terms of resale.

Here are the importation hurdles:

All passenger cars, motorcycles, multipurpose vehicles - MPV, or light trucks less than 25 years old imported for personal use (not resale) into the U.S. on a permanent basis from Canada should follow this procedure. This process may also be followed if a vehicle was originally imported from Canada on a temporary basis or if prior DOT or U.S. Customs clearance was not obtained.

Contact the manufacturer of the vehicle to request a letter, having them state if the vehicle complies with all applicable U.S. Federal motor vehicle safety standards (FMVSS). The letter from the manufacturer must identify your vehicle by the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). READ THE LETTER CAREFULLY.

If the manufacturer letter states that the vehicle complies with U.S. FMVSS, except for minor labeling requirements, you have an acceptable letter. This letter along with your vehicle registration should be presented to the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection (Customs) at the border. Customs will review the manufacturer letter to assure that the vehicle complies. (DOT approval of the manufacturer letter was discontinued as of April 8, 1997.)

If the manufacturer letter states that the vehicle meets all U.S. FMVSS, except for the speedometer, or headlights, you may have these components replaced at a dealer authorized by the factory to repair your vehicle. In addition to the documents cited in item 2, above, you must present the invoice for the speedometer or headlight replacement to obtain Customs approval.

If the manufacturer letter states that the vehicle meets all U.S. FMVSS except for FMVSS No. 208 (automatic or passive restraint requirements) you WILL NOT be able to bring your vehicle into the U.S. on a permanent basis unless it is modified by an RI. If an RI is willing to modify the vehicle, it may be expensive and may change your desire to import the vehicle.

If the manufacturer will not issue a letter for your vehicle, the only method to import your vehicle on a permanent basis is to contract with an RI.

EPA approval is also required. You may call the EPA information line at: (202) 564-9660.
