Now that the motorcycle is about finished for the year, I am driving the cars a lot more. Around here the price of gas drops EVERY Monday to about $ 1.33 (give or take a few cents) and on Thursday it goes up to $ 1.58. This occurs every week at virtually every gas station. Kroger's (Supermarkets) are now selling gas and they seem to have the same price most of the time, around $ 1.34 for 87 octane. Sam's Club is now selling gas for about the same price. The other stations change prices several times as week, usually every Monday and Thursday.
Mileage. On the PT Cruiser I get about 20 or 21 MPG with a 4 cylinder engine. I get the same 20 or 21 in the Prowler. I have read where others are driving way more miles on a tank of gas than I have ever been able to achieve.
What kind of mileage are you getting in your cats?

Ed....best I ever got in a Kat was 21-23mpg on a long interstate trip.....but, a few months ago I got 21mpg on a trip with a new Viper, 75-85 mph with several bursts into the 150-160mph range.....a few weeks ago I got another Vette, 03 conv.....it is the third one in a row that averages 31-33mpg on the road on a trip 75-80 mph....Vettes get the best gas mileage of about any car I ever owned....my old Pinto 20 years ago only got 22-24 mpg....last car I used for a sales car was a 91 Spirit....it got 27mpg if I coasted down hills alot

Ed - our cats average 22mpg in a combination of city/freeway use, and that includes some hard bursts of acceleration at times. My silver got nearly 26mpg twice on the trip to CrazyHorse Tour back in '01.

Phx gas prices are all over the place, from a low of $1.43 to $1.59 for reg.

Ed I have been averaging 19 - 20 MPG in my daily driving. For some reason when my daughter drives it and I check the Average MPG on the mirror computer readout it says anywhere from 13.8 to 15.3. You don't think she is driving it harder than I am, do you?

Marty,

Are you sure that it isn't the other way around? Your daughter gets 19 to 20 and you get???? I've followed you for many, many miles. Even with a broken engine you don't take it easy.

cnote - at least last time Lindsay drove it for a few hours, she washed it and vaccuumed the interior. Also, I got temporary possesion of CD's by Nickelback, OAR, 2 groups I have never heard of, and two CD's she burnt herself. Maybe I can sell them on ebay to pay for the gasoline she used?

The only difference between the way I drive my kat and the way you drive your's is your sparks are under the rear of the car and mine have been under the hood!

On 8-28-02, I used 9.811 gal. in 253 miles for 25.787381 mpg, and that was travelling @ 100mph for half an hour. I only stopped for gas cause I was between towns. I feel I could have stretched it to 275 on that tankfull. It would have been tight tho. I seem to get better mileage with 90-100mph travel than at 75-85mph.

The golf clubs lay on the back seat of the motorcycle with the shoulder strap over the back of my seat. I put the cover over the clubs (except one time I forgot) and have never had a problem. I have taken them about 150 miles, one way, on the m.c.
My gas gauge is all screwed up on the Prowler so I never get over 175 miles on a tank. I reset the trip odometer and watch it like a hawk, NOW.

I've been in the gas/oil distributing biz for 26 years and I'm never surprised at stories I see and hear about retail pricing. There is no reason for there to be such swings EACH week. Every so often, yeah, but not every week.

I can tell you that hypermarkets or big box retailers (like Ed mentioned - Kogers, Sam's Club) often sell gas at or in many cases below cost as a loss leader. There is a new Costco here in Greensboro that is selling gas 5 cents below what I'm paying for it as a distributor.

Bob - It's all the peer pressure from all you "real" hot rod guys that have owned cars with 542 or more HP! When I'm not around all of you I actually drive much calmer. As far as driving hard with a broken engine, I had to drive hard just to keep up! Besides, I knew it needed to be fixed anyway.
