Well, we had a blast yesterday. Jimmy & I ran the car through two set of races in two classes and the car was still working at the end of the day... There are eight classes of Sports and Stock cars battling wheel to wheel on the 1.8 mile Grand Bayou Circuit. Some of us just see the wheels going by... There are four race groups (multiple classes within the groups). You have over one hour of seat time in the car. The format is 30 min warm-up session, 15 minute Heat Race & than 20 minute Feature Race for each group. The Formula class cars (indy type cars) run in a group by themselves. The other classes are split into three groups running on the track at the the same time but, are timed within each specific class (like Lemans type racing). Jimmy ran in the Green Bracket class and I ran in the Vintage V8 class.

Here's me on the left and Jimmy (my racing partner & car builder partner). This is just after I completed my Feature race and waiting on Jimmy's Feature race...

There was some great racing in the feature races. There were three to four cars in each of these classes that were running very similar times and made for some close racing. Johnny Walter and John Centani ran their Corvettes in the Super Production class. I can give a first hand account from this class since the Vintage V8 class ran at the same time... I got lapped twice by the Johnny & John & the two Porsches (over 700 HP motors). Those four cars were running bumper to bumper in a close pack the whole race (John Centani pulled out late in the race with a miss in his motor - just after passing me in turn #12 side by side with a Porshce). So, toward the end it was the two Porsches against Johnny Walter's GT1 Vette... Johnny led most of that race and on the last lap they were three wide in turn #4 and one of the Porsches got by Johnny and held him off to finish 1st. Actually, Johnny had the fastest lap of the day at 1:17 seconds.

Having the two classes racing at the same time makes for some great racing. It probably slows the lap times down for the Super Production cars when they have to pass slower traffic...I think in the Super Production / Vintage V8 feature race we had 14 cars (nine Super Production cars & five Vintage V8s cars) on the track. One other thing - I was whipped at the end of the day. My arms were sore from the holding onto the steering wheel. My fastest lap was 1:35. This was the first time I've been able to complete all the races without experiencing some sort of problem (and, we actually completed two sets of races on Sunday)... While Jimmy & I each had one hour of racing, the 78 Vette had two hours on it... It was a good work horse today...

Alan McDonnel's Speedvison Viper, John Sentani's Blue Vette, Johnny Walter's Yel/White Vette... Super Production cars...

My Yellow Vette (Vintage V8), Ralph C3 Vette & Stephen's C4 Vette both Super Production cars...

Here's Jimmy in the Blue & Green Heat race going through turn #13...

Here's the Yellow Porsche (700+ HP) that won the Super Production Feature race edging out Johnny Walter in last lap after dipping under him as they went three wide in turn #4 and held him off to finish line...

Congrats Laddie , looks like great fun, you are going to be a major player at the next autocross.

Not sure of your maintenance for your car but I would flush the brake fluid out every race just to be sure, if not the moisture will collect in the brake fluid and you will lose your brakes. Did that in my dirt car one night.........

Again, never seen you smile so big.........

Thanks everyone. It is fun...

Debbie.

It's like living a dream. Although, it didn't start that way for me... It was just one of those crazy things I decided I would like to do (the racing part). Building a car was something I've often said I would have liked to do. Didn't have the tools nor the technical ability. Jimmy has all of that and it was an opportunity with Jimmy's help and guidance for me to put the car together... I only did what he told me... I'm glad I did it and would do it again for the 1st time. Not sure I would tackle a 2nd project... I even had my son involed last summer on our mid week project day....

Here's my original post last year with pics of what we started with...

Here's a couple of more pics sent to me...

How many cars in this picture???

Road course layout with turns numbered and start/finish line (14 turns in all). Straight away is 2,000 ft before turn #1
...

Road course outlined in red...

This may be picture of me... although it could be Jimmy... pic was sent to me...

There are four cars in first photo. These are the fastest four cars in the Super Production class. Johnny (yel/wh vette), Randy (Yel/wh Porsche), Scotty (Whi Porsche), & John (blue Vette). This was going into turn #13. Picture was sent to me from Sunday's race. These cars get up to 150 mph on straight away just before they have brake & downshift into turn #1...
