What is going on with the electorate? Can't people stop and think.

Here in Canada we have just had 2 elections - one for Ontario's premier (equivalent to your Governor), and one for the mayor of the city of Toronto. Both have elected socialists. The mayor even effectively ran on a platform of higher taxes. Who in their right mind would vote for higher taxes. While in Canada, a lot of people don't care about taxes because it doesn't affect them. Currently about 95% of taxes are paid by 5% of the population. So, effectively running on a platform of higher taxes is like asking the other 95% of voters "do you want to spend more of the rich peoples money on social programs OR do you want them to keep the money". So we have 95% of the population deciding how to spend the other 5%'s money. What a system. Top tax rates here approach 50% while a huge portion of the population is taxed at less than 20% and its becoming more skewed all the time. Maybe instead of having "one person - one vote" you should get one vote for every dollar you contribute to the coffers.

While Canada is a more socialist country than the US (and getting worse), this same culture seems to be invading the US. What ever happened to "fairness". The current tax system is no different than going to buy a Prowler from the dealer and before he gives you the price, he first has to find out how much you make, If you make $50,000 the price is $X, but if you make $200,000, the price is 10 times $X. No different - if a business tried it, the government would call it price-fixing or robbery and you would be put in jail.

End of rant. Thanks for listening.

(remember this rant in a year from now when you vote for prez)

It is called voting themselves a raise. And I thought this could only happen in America.

Wouldn't it be nice if elections were held on April 15th?

I settle for folks just being bright enough to remember they did come election time. Alas, most have very short memories.

Seems to me in politics people get elected based on popularity at the time of the election when all the promises are made few of which are ever kept!I share Wayne's comments about taxes in which 5 % pay 95% of the taxes. It seems like the harder you work and the more you make, the more you get penalized for that and the more you get taken away.
The good thing about the Federal government change is that it hopefully strengthens Canada-U.S.relations which Chretien pretty much destroied.
And maybe Wayne,we should become self emploied instead and show the government only a poverty line income thereby somewhat solving the problem!

Dr, I am self-employed - only problem is MY poverty line keeps growing - I really need another car - and yes, that is a need, not a want
