On the 7 PM national news they did a feature on failure of ball joints on the Dakota and Durango. It was an upper ball joint failure. For all of you who own those vehicles you may want to keep an eye on them. The two people they interviewed both had about 30,000 miles on their vehicles. One wheel fell off and the other one was loose enough to see the tire wobble when up on a lift. This is not a criticism of any vehicle or of D-C. It is not a complaint. I am just passing on what I saw on TV. Don't jump to the conclusion that all ball joints are bad. They said there were more failures on Durango and Dakotas than any other SUV but I do not know if that is 1/10th of 1 percent or higher. Check your front end and be safe. |

My son (Dave Jr.) had ball joint problems with his 98 Dakota. The replacements seem to be holding up fine. I did not have problems with either my 98 or my 2000 Dakota. We have had ball joint problems on all our Dakotas at work but they are much higher mileage. |

I read on a Durango board that a recall is in the works for this. They did not say anything about it covering the Dakota though (although it should). ------------------ |

After hearing of this potential problem from Rich, I took my 02 Durango in for a check up. Ball joints were fine at 35,500 miles. Thanks for the warning. |
