It was an upper ball joint failure. For all of you who own those vehicles you may want to keep an eye on them. The two people they interviewed both had about 30,000 miles on their vehicles. One wheel fell off and the other one was loose enough to see the tire wobble when up on a lift. This is not a criticism of any vehicle or of D-C. It is not a complaint. I am just passing on what I saw on TV. Don't jump to the conclusion that all ball joints are bad. They said there were more failures on Durango and Dakotas than any other SUV but I do not know if that is 1/10th of 1 percent or higher. Check your front end and be safe.

The replacements seem to be holding up fine. I did not have problems with either my 98 or my 2000 Dakota. We have had ball joint problems on all our Dakotas at work but they are much higher mileage.
