Looks like things are really heating up with the many wildfires burning in Southern California right now. The fire in Piru is in Cliff Watsons home town, highway 126 (only way there) into and out of town has been closed most of the day, and news just reported they are starting to evacuate residents in town. Hope everything is OK for Cliff, he lives in about the middle of the town and mostly away from the foothills, but winds are reported to be pretty fierce. Tried calling his house but got no answer.

Fire in San Bernadino foothills have destroyed many homes, and we have several owners that live in that area. Hope no one is in the path of the fire.

Lets all pray that they get a handle on this before any more homes are destroyed, or lives are lost.

Jim, thanks for the update and the good news. Hope all is well with Cliff, Gina and the boys and the wind shifts or dies down. I saw it on the news a few minutes ago and it looks very powerful and widespread.

Jim - thanks for calling! We've had a pretty intense day. When we woke up this morning we saw the smoke pretty close. Within about an hour the flames were coming over the moutain.

We never got evacuated but there were other parts of town that did - mostly up in the canyon and along the highway. The smoke was pretty bad - we smelled like we had been camping just from standing outside. We did have things packed up ready to go... I was in a quandry... with 3 vehicles and 2 drivers... I was trying to decide whether to lose the truck or lose the kat... whichever one I left if we got evacuated would have been left behind for fate.

Luckly - never had to make that decision

At about 3pm the fire jumped the 126 and headed over the mountain to where Simi Valley and Moorpark is - many more homes there. We are not out of the woods yet - the fire is across the valley coming back down to the 126 - if it jumps the highway again tonight, we may have to leave.

We have 2 friends that had the fire jump their homes. As far as we know, there have been no homes lost in Piru. We spent some of the afternoon up in the canyon helping a friend put out spot fires around their house. Pretty intense.

Thanks for the concern! We are anxiously waiting for the news to come on so we can see what has happened all day. With the power out since 5, we have missed a lot of information.

I don't think we will sleep too much tonight... the orange glow coming in our window is pretty freaky.

Thanks for the concern! I am also concerned about Dan Garcia - he is in Simi as well as others in that area. Hope he comes out okay.

Cliff, Offer still stands, If you need to get outta there, come on up. Plenty of room for Gina, the boys, and maybe even you. Lets hope everything works out OK. Thought about Dan also, wasn't sure exactly were in Simi he lives. Saw that they were doing some evacuations in the mountain areas and horse properties.

Cliff - we are praying that those nasty winds turn away or die down and that you and your neighbors will remain safe.

Stallings - Seen Dan Garcia on the tv news films,,,,he was faning the fire towards his place. Said he had it insured for 3X its value Dan,,,the Prowler Gods will save you also, but it took three votes and us paying them off to consider saving you!

I am glad to hear that Cliff and Jim are doing fine.
I was in Bakersfield last evening when my daughter called me that the fire had jumped the 126 and 118 freeway. Although our home is about a mile awayfrom the fire I wasted no time in coming home. Normal 1 1/2 hour drive done in one hour (No traffic)
Although home is in no danger it sure is a spooky feeling seeing all those flames in the foothills. And they are not little ones either.
Jim /Cliff hope you all fair out ok, no telling where it goes from here. Fire still bouncing around and not even close to being put out, all the Santa Anna winds are making it difficult to control. AC, no its not my hot air, not the Garcia winds but the those winds are known as the Santa Anna's.
Power is been off and on all day, first time that I have been able to get in. Not seeing a lot of news, a quite day just listening to battery operated radio and reading.
AC, since you are selling my other house in GV, will you put this on as a "FIRE SALE"- as is.
Just found out that the 118 freeway is now closed from Desoto ,in Chatsworth which is North of us, only way out of Simi is back roads to get to Thousand Oaks.
We are Ready to go at a moments notice, better ready than sorry, but still think it won't make it into Town...

Dan - glad to hear you are okay and in a safe place.

We made it through the night just fine. The fire didn't jump back over the highway but continued burning south east and west. Eventually it will hit the ocean and go out

The fire that was called the Piru fire (not to be confused with yesterdays event which started from the Val Verde fire) suddenly turned south today. This fire has been burning north of the lake since Wednesday I think.

Now that it is burning south, it has a very good chance to come over the only mountains that haven't burned yet... the ones on the north side of us. The smoke and ash is very strong but the fire is moving more west than south so Fillmore will probably be in danger by tonight.

They have restricted traffic coming into Piru again just in case they have to evacuate us (if it comes over the ridge and down the mountain). I guess this is phase III? (have to keep some sense of humor with all this).

At least we have power still. We expect it to go out just about the time the sun goes down

I will keep you updated... I wonder if I will be going to work tomorrow

Cnote6's Dad was to fly to California tomorrow morning (Monday Morning) and he just got a call that the airport tower was closed so the meeting is off. So it must really be bad. Hope everyone close is safe.

Dan, Glad everything is OK so far. This thing continues to just grow with no time frame for containment yet.

CNote6Mom: One of the major air traffic control sites has been evacuated, has basically shut down LAX, San Diego and I think John Wayne airports. Plane travel appears to be a nightmare according to the news reports.

Looks like we have several more fires that have started now. There is one burning about 8 miles from my sons new home outside of San Diego, and see there is also one starting to go strong in Hemet. They say at least 2 weeks or more before all fires are contained at the earliest.

In all seriousness, I hope the fire fighters can get some control over the fires looming around you people. Just the thought of losing your home, personal property, your dreams, your Prowler, and all the memories from the past sure makes you think. I hope all of you survive this situation alright.

Dan,,,I sold your home in Green Valley 30 days ago. Didn't Dottie tell you? She told me to take a 25% commission and I sent the rest of the cash to her weeks ago.

Best of luck and may the Lord look over all who live in CA and other threatened areas. Take care of yourselves, things, even Prowlers, can be replaced. You, on the other hand, are friends I just haven't met yet, and want to some day!

My daughter,son-in-law and 3 grandkids live in Lake Arrowhead. They were evacuated on Saturday and are staying with some friends down toward San Diego. They grabbed what they could and the things you can't replace but have no idea if they will have a house when they return. I understand the fire is about 1000' below them right now in Crestline and if the winds shift, most of the Lake Arrowhead community will be gone. I hope all of you out there remain safe and pray for a miracle to stop the spread.

Hey everyone, just checking in. Our north mountain is still burning - we have no firefighters in sight... I think they are just going to let it burn. Gina & I stayed home from work today because we just were not comfortable with leaving the town with fire still looming so close.

We are getting tired of smelling smoke. We are hoping this last mountain finishes burning today so we can get back to normal.

Thanks for your thoughts and concerns everyone So far we have made it through okay.

Jim - is that Ojai fire burning towards you? Are you guys okay?

Everyone out there,

Glad to hear that you all are OK.

We packed to evacuate from the Paradise Fire area last (Valley Center)today we are unloading the truck, but leaving the stuff by the front door, just in case.

As I packed and unloaded the truck, I remembered how little material things matter. All that truly matters will fit inside of the vehicles.

Family and Friends...the things that truly matter.

Be safe out there...no heroics.

Cliff, No problem here, just the ash fallout and smoke is all. Can't be near as bad as you are getting it though.

Kala, This has got to be tough on those birds you raise. Hopefully they (and your friends in Moorpark) survive with no problems.

Dan, Still holding out things are OK for you and Dottie.

Have several friends now that have lost their homes to the fires in Hemet area. Hope they get a handle soon. Santa Ana winds are supposed to be giving way to an onshore wind. At least it will drop the temp down some, even a few degree's has got to help the folks on the front lines.

Hey Jim

So far our end of the valley is ashless... Is that a word?

The wind seems to be keeping the smoke and ash away from us. I went to Ventura today and saw ash everywhere. Go figure.

Our Congo Greys are out there talking like usual, so Im not going to worry yet. We moved our Hyacinth Macaws to Fresno a few months ago, They are really sensitive birds, so Im glad they are out ok...

Have you heard about the extent of the fire in PIRU? I had the news on and it wasn't getting much coverage... Is it almost out? / 126 open?

Take care
Kala

About a dozen Arizona cities and towns are sending their trucks, equipment, and manpower over to Ca. to assist in the effort to contain the wildfires. The City of Mesa, Az. has units on the way right now. They need to get a handle on these fires soon. Loss of life and homes is sad and depressing. We are all praying for those in the fire's path and the people who are fighting these fires.
