Okay - I know it was heavily discussed that Texas should be the setting for the 2004 National Event. If everyone is still wanting it to be in Texas, I'm willing to help out on the planning, but would like some input as to what region of Texas would be best. I'll put together the racing end for everyone and help on hotel accommodations. Need some other Texans to help out if Texas is the place it's going to be. Any suggestions or input from anyone and any takers on helping out? Tami This message has been edited by TFischer on 08-30-2003 at 01:17 PM |

Austin, Corpus, or South Padre would be my top 3 choices. |

Gheezzz,,,,I was going to wait a week to jump on this topic. I earlier had suggested the great Lone Star Texas Triangle - Dallas - San Antonio- Houston. I'm open to any sites or cities you guys want in Texas,,,,but a trip to Texas without seeing the Krehel Prowler Museum would be lackluster, IMO. Is South Padre better than going to Galveston Island? I'm sure we will have many owners from Texas willing to help plan the event. I was going to email Mike and Judy about possible dates to see the museum next year,,,if a national event is held in Texas.

A trip to Texas without seeing the Krehel museum wouldn't be right - so we should definitely see what we can do to set that up with Mike and Judy! If it's going to be in Texas it needs to be sometime before August - everyone would melt - LOL - so probably something in May or early June or September or October would be much better. Just my opinion. T |

quote: Padre sand... think salt. Galveston sand... think brown paper bag. Padre water... think blue waters. Galveston water... think brown paper bag. Padre to Houston... about 6 hrs. Corpus (more like Padre) to Houston... 3 1/2 to 4 hrs. Austin to Houston... about 2 1/2 hrs. Galveston to Houston... about 1 to 1 1/2 hrs depending on traffic. Surfside is a better beach (same distance/same colors/nicer drive) and cars can drive the beach (which you can't do on Galveston). There is also a dike road 5 miles long that we could run the cars on. Hairpin turns and all. (Even has cliffs!!) I would love for next years event to be held in Texas. Would be alot closer to home for me. FYI, Schools start here in mid August. I thought CJ was looking into the possibility of running our Kats around Indy or Daytona tho? Maybe she didn't mean as a national event? CJ, anything on this yet? ------------------ Type your text here This message has been edited by idive on 09-03-2003 at 11:47 PM |

I'm all for Texas, but it has to be during late Fall or early Spring to make it bearable. Summers in Texas suck. |

Well as everyone knows I would go to Texas or California but on the way home from PTS I thought the Wisconsin Dells, here is a link http://www.wisdells.com/ this place has something for everyone and most of the resort hotels have amusement park/water rides for the kids. Also they have some car thing going on in 2004 already? ------------------ |

It doesn't have to be a so called national Event!!If the people in Texas want to organise a event go to it! If 50 kats show up its a big success. If someone in Indy, Ohio,Wisconsin, want to do one great. If someone wants to do Boston great. Your never going to please everyone. I loved Niagara falls, great area, would do it again in a second. Sorry i missed the Smokies, do it there next year, i'll come. Good luck planning these events, you people who do are the greatest!! ------------------ |

CT, we have had many events is Texas from day one of this Site...if Tami puts something together is because lots of people where asking about and wanted do A "National" in Texas...as we had have one big Event a year some where in the middle od country as possible....speaking only for myself putting events together takes lots of time and out of pocket money and it is also hard to please everyone ..Tami has stepped up to the plate and wants to make this happen based on what we had heard in smokies... SO my point is we are only doing it and calling a National event by popular demand..... |

I don't want to get into the middle of anything, but there was also talk of going to Canada next year. We had three in a row out west, Grand Canyon, Deadwood and Colo. Whatever the majority wants is fine with us. Wherever it is, we will try to make it. If it is possible, we will be there. I don't want it here, to be honest. The weather is too fickle. It is either hot and humid or raining in the summer, the past few years. The Smoky Mtns. were hot enough for me. I was involved with the planning and it is a lot of work. You need a lot of people so that someone can take charge of a particular day. As far as doing the PCH, it is beautiful but that entails packing up every night. That sucks in my opinion. You have to drive x number of miles no matter the weather conditions, how tired you are, someone has car problems or gets sick. They either get left behind or the entire trip and group are out of luck. I strongly suggest staying put in the same hotel and making day trips. That way if you are not interested in one segment, you can skip it without being penalized. That is just my 2 cents and some things you might want to consider. Again, we will most likely be there, wherever THERE is. If not next year, shoot for 2005. I plan on being there, also. |

I feel we should have one National Event per year, and it's well known that not everyone can make it to the chosen location or that everyone will be happy with the location. After a list of nominee sites are suggested, we can have a vote on the subject. If YOU want to nominate your state or area,,,be sure YOU are willing to put in the long hours of hard work to help put the event together. Event planning is work, believe me. Remember that this is a car association of car enthusiasts, not a travel agency booking a Disney World trip [not a reference against a Florida held event, just a figure of speech]. Let us continue with the suggestions. This message has been edited by ALLEY CAT on 08-31-2003 at 10:21 PM |
