My wife, daughter and I just came though here a few days before this happened!

Subject: Pictures-Backhoe hitting I-70 bridge near Hays, KS

Either late Monday or Tuesday a backhoe on top of a flat bed trailer was going East- bound on I-70 near the West edge of Hays and hit an overpass.

See pictures attached for results of the damage.

Thats a weee bit bigger than a Backhoe.
But anyway it went thru the bridge like a can opener.

What a rush if you were on the bridge when it happened.

This just don't look right.
I don't see how a hoe that size can handle a boom and dipper that long.

Wow! Take me back in time! 1974 - Interstate 25 South, just entering the city limits of Albuquerque, N. M. I'm about 50 yards behind a flatbed with a similar cane unit rolling along at 60 mph when the same thing happened In my situation, the crane topples sideways, coming off the flatbed and slides and tumbles along the underpass. Luckily, no cars were hit and everyone came out safe. Thinking about it now,,,seems at the time I left a Halicat stain in the driver's seat, lol.

Gee, it was only two or three inches too tall. It almost cleared it. What were they thinking?
