TORONTO (CP) - Police have seized a street-racing video game found on the front seat of a luxury car involved in a fatal crash as potential evidence. ADVERTISEMENT
Police say they will pass the copy of Need for Speed to prosecutors in the case of two 18-year-olds accused in a horrific crash that killed a taxi driver. The teens are accused of racing two Mercedes Benzes down a Toronto street before the crash.
Det. Paul Lobsinger says it's sadly ironic that the events of the video game seem to have spilled over into real life.
Lobsinger says he found it "surprising" and "very strange" that the popular racing game was in the car that slammed into the taxi.
Witnesses say the two Mercedes reached speeds of 140 kilometres an hour before one struck the taxi making left turn, killing 46-year-old cabbie Tahir Khan.
The man, who was only days away from receiving his Canadian citizenship, was working to bring his wife to Canada from Pakistan.
Need for Speed allows players to select high-end cars and race them through crowded urban areas.
Alexander Ryazanov and Wang-Piao Ross are charged with criminal negligence causing death. Ross also faces a charge of failing to stop after an accident causing death.
Ross is scheduled to appear in bail court Friday morning.
Ryazonov's bail hearing has been held over until Monday.
Thought I'd share this with you....how far some kids will go to bring fantasy to life and how totally devastating it can be.This just happened in Toronto a few days ago!
