The end is near....
2007 season will bring the Camry into Nascar...

They will dump untold millions into their program fueled by the ever increasing popularity of their cars in North America....
they won't be fast, but will win because they don't have to stop to fuel up...

What is this world coming to ?

It's the end of the world,,I tell ya,,,the end of the world

You knew it would have to happen after the Tundra trucks entered NASCAR. The cars will win some races in the third year,,,,,after that,,,,they will be going for the CUP. I seen it in IMSA,,,,Indy cars,,,and Formula One. Toyota jumps in,,,everyone laughs at them,,,,three/four/five years later,,,,,nobody is laughing anymore. I'm surprised Honda hasn't wiggled their way in with a Acura also.

When the day comes that Kia's and Hyundai's are racing cars in the U.S., I'm going to watch paint dry.

Doesn't NASCAR stand for North American Stock Car Assoc.? IMO they should not let Toyota race in this event. This is an American Race not international. It's a sad day.

Rich, not disagreeing with you but Camry's are produced in KY. Not every one, but almost all of them.

North American "STOCK CAR" Assoc. How many of them are "STOCK" cars?

NASCAR is great for afternoon naps. Five laps into the race and I'm out. I sometimes wake up just in time for the last five but I really don't care.

AC has it almost right. It is already as boring to watch paint dry as watching them "stock" cars go around and around and around.........I'm geting sleepy!

close but not quite

National
Association of

Don't ask why, it's logical that back in the 50's most cars were shoeboxes and were not gutted out for weight or rollcages for protection. So they just took the name and used it.

Nascar is not for everyone, some find it boring, some find it exciting....

There are a few Nascar fans here in the POA, myself being one of them, that find it a pleasure to bring up some discussion on the races with everyone to read if they want, and to ignore if they want.
The great folks here who aren't fans usually don't trample all over the sport that some of us really enjoy....What purpose would it serve ? I only hope that Nascar continues to provide entertainment for the millions of fans that love the thunder, and feel the rush ...

dang !

I'd love to take that Camry around Daytona real fast and put it into a 4 wheel drift right into the wall......woooooooo hoooooooooooo !

The "N" in NASCAR stands for National....just cause they are built here, that doesn't make them american. NASCAR grew out of the old bootlegging days and I never heard of a good ole boy and his Toyota. When the trucks were announced, the cars couldn't be far behind. I immediately cancelled all my race tickets and I have not watched a race since the first Tundra hit the track.

Hali, Was not attempting to trample or offend. I find most sports much more enjoyable when attended live than watching on tv. Nascar is the same. When you're standing next to the fence as a racing car/bike goes by at full speed, that gets the heart pumping!

I enjoy motocross and also World superbike/moto gp racing. I'm not a fan of the motocross tv coverage, they have a long way to go to have the same level of presentation that nascar has for it's fans.

Sorry you felt I was downing the sport, that was not my intention at all.

The more I think about it, the more I realize, I can fall to sleep watching anything in the afternoon thats on tv!

Everybody has their own take on Nascar.I don't really get to excited over the negative comments. I have brought quite a few people their first Nascar race, they are all hooked. Maybe you do have to be there. I still watch them if I am not at them. They can't be as bad as some say or it wouldn't be the #1 spectator sport in America. BTW, they were NEVER stock, even the bootleggers souped them up.As far as Jap cars, I don't like it either, but I aint gonna stop going or watching because of that . I can't wait to get to Daytona. Counting the days! What a blast. That includes the night truck race which will give you goosebumps, Jap trucks and all. Of course that's just me......and about 200,000 others........What do we know anyhow? green green green

Wasn't too thrilled with Daytona, just too damn big. We were in turn two and was hard to identify cars coming into turn one.

After three years of races standing inside of turn two at Dover watching Irl and cup races it was no comparison. Literally less than thirty feet from the cars. Good wrecks in two and four at Dover. Got Dales Sr's autograph the year before the crash and was standing in the empty pit beside his while he was pitting(the other team had crashed and cleared out).

Those days and those connections gone now. But it was a blast while it lasted. Oh, and it was all free! Doesn't get no better than that.

Haven't been to Dover for a few years but would love to go back again.

hey KKat,

Sorry to sound a bit harsh in my post...had a redneck moment !..lol

Now that I think about it, when I first saw Nascar as a kid... I couldn't figure out why people liked it.... just as you say... round and a round they go ??...borrrring 1
I think I like it so much now because I have learned enough about it to realize how difficult it is to be a winner,
how many guys gotta get it together to bring home the trophy....

Most of all, I like it because of the enthusiasm of the fans....
the anthem,
the fly by....
the "Gentlemen... Start your engines ! "
and as Tom says... Green, Green, Green !...
the crashes...
the bump and run on the last lap...
The checkered flag....
The fence climbing,
the back flips...

Come on Daytona !

I agree with Dave Mills. Back in the day you could tell a MOPAR from a Furd from two blocks away and they looked like cars you saw on the track. Now every Nascar vehicle looks the same, you can't buy one like it at the dealer so a lot has changed.
Baseball is similar. I used to know who played on what team because they were there for years. Now I don't even know who the REDS players are. It is hard to get enthused about stuff that has changed so drastically.

NASCAR like most of the other forms of Auto racing have been removed from the hands of the average person and placed in the Big Money Corporate Business World. All my friends that used to race NASCAR have all retired due to the outlandish cost of operating a race car in today's racing world. I like may others stopped watching the Corporate heyboys on Sunday afternoons and started reading a good book instead. You may complain about Toyota racing in NASCAR, but they lost many of us when they started using front wheel drive body styles as rear wheel Stock cars. That move removed Stock Car from NASCAR, and caused serious damage to their creditability.

Halicat not to worry, I'm sure there are a few more like me that not only like Nascar but like reading (without commenting or posting) your comments and other's regarding Nascar races. 'Course if it burns gas and goes fast on land water or air I'm pretty much a fan, and I have all of my teeth and no back hair.

For 25 years, I went to both races at Dover, both races at Richmond and a couple races at Charlotte. There is no thrill like being there, even though you see better sitting at home at the larger tracks. I guess the thrill is just gone for me. No cars that you can relate to, too many rule changes to accommodate the flavor of the month, and corporate big money has taken over.

Glad you asked Gene,,,Honda and Toyota have dominated the IRL racing series for several years. Chevy competed, but couldn't build a competitive V-8 in horsepower, with durability. Who's fault is that? Chevy and Toyota are now out of IRL racing for 2006 - the strongest and best survive. Un-American? The Honda racing V-8 comes from Honda's huge HPD plant and testing facility in Santa Clarita, CA.
