I owned one and really enjoyed it. The convertible hard top is very cool! And with the top up there is plenty of trunk space for road trips.

If you test drive the Chrysler Crossfire, you will recognize the interior. It's built on the SLK platform...

I was looking at buying one a couple years ago. I like the looks of the ones with the sport package. I found the BMW Z3 and the Porsche Boxter to be more to my liking.

For the money I would go with a Porsche Boxster over the SLK, but thats me.

Gary-

My wife has been driving an ML (SUV) for 5 years and had a 300E before that she drove for 9 years.

She loves Mercedes cars and feels safe in them. If Mama's happy at least the rest of us have a chance at being happy!

I have found them to be very reliable, but parts and service are costly.

Gary, we bought the same car brand new. No problem at all, just oil changes and gas. Fun to drive, good handling and pretty good speed. We have four Mercedes and I really think the best car on the road. Have been looking at the new SLK55, like I said LOOKING. Good luck on the buy.

Check it out.

We also modified it somewhat - in addition to 17" AMG wheels , we added some graphics. Since most folks don't know that it comes with a supercharger from the factory, by putting it on the car in big letters it grabs their attention.

Considering all the cars we have and we drive them all, we now stand at 10,000 miles on her. Her name is slick.

I have a MB C230 Kompressor. I love the peppy engine and I have no issues with it. FYI: MB no-longer will make superchargers except on AMG model in 2006.

I have had one of same car and also SL 450-SL560 plus all the other hi dollar cars and my last purchase I like better and it is a Lexus SC430 which is also a steel top conv.I have never had any major problems with any except the SL560 which was A/C and brakes. The SL430 is quicker than Benz's I have had since it has 300HP and still get excellent gas mileage.I guess its what you like better.
