whistle, speed shift a 4 speed...he taught me hard work , about running a business....showed me the back roads to Kentucky where his home was, tires squealing all thru the mountains in his blue Fords, we always had a blue Ford...he is responsible for me never smoking, a deal we made when I was 14 years old....spent weeks at my side in the hospital when I was a kid, critically injured in an auto accident....he used to loan me his motorcycle, a chopper, when I wanted it, but I never did learn to ride it very well...he told me of all his exploits during WWII, and most recently told me a lot of new stories I had never heard...we drag raced each other on many occasions when I was a teen, he usually out drove me in my old 55 Chevy...he loved to ride in Vipers and our last run to the homeplace a couple of years ago was in a black Viper SRT, he always wanted to go faster....we hit in excess of 150mph on many stretches on open road thru Kentucky....then we had 2 police cars follow us the last 20 miles....I think they were puzzled why two old guys were going that fast, never stopped us but watched us closely for a long time, he loved to tell that story...called me every evening to check in, and see what was new, he loved the fact I owned different businesses...he was my buddy, and my dad.... Larry - so sorry to hear about your dad. Mine died years ago but I was thinking a lot about him today as he would have been celebrating his 79th birthday. Your memories of your dad will last forever!

My dad was not around when I was growing up, got to know him in my adult years, Only had 14 years to get to know him and I think of him always. Larry, my sincere condolences; I'm sure he was as proud of you as you are of him. While you are suffering now, you are very fortunate to have had your father around for so many years and to him guide you all those years and be your buddy. Lost my dad when I was 11 on Christmas Eve. Having your father for so long was a real gift which it sounds like you two took full advantage of through the years.
