In approx. 3 weeks(I hope) I will have my first properly chromed original grille. These will be processed one at a time and offered only when they are completed and ready to install. These are show chromed!! I've had one of these on my own Kat for about a year and am VERY pleased with it. These take a lot of time to prepare and I had to teach myself to do the process prior to the very special chrome application. My sons and I have spent a great deal of time perfecting the process. It takes over 20 hrs. to prep. each grille (sorry, the prep. and chrome process are proprietary) The price will be $1500.oo and a $400.oo core charge(I've got to have perfect grills coming back to process-no scratches, chips, dings, or breaks) If you want to see one of these NOW go to EVENTS 2005, then to cool Sept. day's at so. lake tohoe(car show) scroll down 30 pic's(3rd from bottom)and there's a pic of Linda Johnson's grille(one of the orig. 3). If your interested or have questions call me at 650-967-3609. I'm starting a first come-first served list, Obi-Wan(Scott Curtis)

Holey Moley Obi-Wan!!No doubt your grill looks GREAT!!.....but for me, there's no way your grill is chromed three times better than the cost of what it cost to chrome my grill. My grill was chromed at Custom Coatings in Florida. Also..my grill IS "properly coated", and it looks great and it has held up great. Hope I'm not sending too much of a mixed message. But..as always, we welcome vendors who provide quality Products and wish you well. I'm SURE there will be a market for this quality product. [B]

Personally, my factory original grille was "properly chromed" as well, by Custom Coatings in Florida over 6 years ago! My car has appeared in numerous "shows" which would therefore qualify this as a "show chrome" finish in my opinion. Perhaps you didn't intend on "slighting" those that were "pioneers" in getting factory grilles chromed, for far less money too, I might add, or didn't mean to imply that ours are inferior in either quality or looks ... but that is how it came across to me at least. I am quite pleased with the look of my grille, and others that have seen it are too. Best of luck to you in your sales ...

The trick of the process is a high metallic paint that will conduct electrical cuurent. From there the process is the same as metal. The prep has to be right though.

In Scott's defence, I too had been trying to get a PERFECT CHROME GRILL.The root cause of the problem getting the grill chromed is not getting the chrome on it as much as the prep work to get it ready to chrome and making a jig to get the plating to flow correctly. Making sure thru each process coat the grill is polished smooth. DC did not chrome the grills from the factory as they could not get the chrome plating that would satisfy them. Custom Coatings did my 1st one ($300)and it looked good in the cra and most everyone that seen it wanted one. My understanding of the problem is they sold the business, then the problems began to get them done. I then went to Advanced Plating ( I'm thinking they were $695), Scott had a grill there when I stopped by and they were having problems but thought they had it worked out and after seeing my chrome grill in the car did one for me and finished Scotts. JD got one done and was not happy with it and they said after a few more grills NO MORE PROWLER GRILLS. Mine was nicer than the Custom Coating but they didn't get the top done like it should but the rest looked great. So one more plater that decided not to chrome the Prowler grill. Then NORB stepped up and said he would try and get the stock grill plated. He thought he had a grill lined up to work with but ended up not getting it. I had an extra silver grill and offered it to him to work with. This grill was sanded smooth on the bottom of the fins and plated to show quality. Norbs 1st thought on the cost was in the $700 range I think, but after the prep time and the cost to plate it I think it was something like $1,200 exchange. But due to the cost and the fact NORB needed to turn many more than orders coming in I'm not sure anyone other than mine and Scott got one from him. Now as you can see each one of my grills got more expensive. Was I happy with each one, Yes, to a degree. Ed Monahan has my Custom coating, Dave Mills has my Advance Plating and I have the one Norb had done for me. I'm done trying to help out the other owners get a chrome grill since everyone wanted better quality than was out there or a better price. Scott is right on the prep time to get the grill ready to plate. Pay him, pay the plater or do it yourself, have you got 20 hours to do fine detail work to prep it and what if you screw up? How many hours did he spend to get it down to that? Now for those that want a QUALITY PIECE and want a CHROME GRILL try and find a place to do it for less and you will have several Prowler owners wanting their number. I LOVE ALL MY CHROME GRILLS. Good Luck Scott ------------------ Larry & Sue Mayes

Very nice grilles! Man! I enjoy looking at the pics you guys submit! Linda's grille came out very nice! And, I've been a fan of Chromer's since I signed up on this site, but this is the first time I've seen a front end picture. Very nice also! As a future Prowler owner, all I can say is the more competition the better. As long as the product is good quality. Good luck Obi-wan!

No slighting intended to anyone or their respective shops or processes. I've been working on this for about 4 years. When ever I would here of a shop that stated they could chrome one of these grills I would contact them and go forward with a grille if I thought they could do one. I'm sure I missed some sources but I gave several shops the chance to try. Most of them sent my grille back untouched after seeing it up close stating that they didn't think they could provide the type of finish I would be happy with. Advanced was one of the shops that did one for me and for John. Neither of us was happy with the finial work though we did appreciate the effort put forth be them. I had about given up(at least for then)when I got info. that Norb.(TGF) was willing to try some. I contacted him and ended up sending him 2 grills to do. So he did 3 altogether. As a result of all of this I was given the process and the chrome source as proprietary info. since TGF was not going to go forward with any more units. Linda Johnson's grille shown above was one of those 3 grills. Note that the first grille I(and my sons)prep'ed. has taken over 60 hrs. to complete. I can cut the time down to about 20hrs. on all future grills but I don't see doing it in less time than that. There's just no machine or tool that can cut the time down from that and do a proper job. You can only do that level of work for a limited amount of time then you've got to step back and come back to it later that day or the next. I'm not trying to even get close to a shop rate when I do one of these but I think my price is very justified. In this area body shops charge at least 75.oo per hr. and that means that the prep. alone would be 1500.oo and proper chrome processing ain't cheep either. At this writing I've spent well over 250hrs.++ on this total project and the challenge has been very educational for me. So that's my take on all this. I hope I didn't offend anyone-not intended !! My goal all along has been to finish my own car to the level I think these vehicles should be taken and to offer these products at a reasonable piece to any owner who wants them. I firmly think that's right to do. I've put some 73,000+ miles on my Prowler and a lot of those miles has been in pursuit of these products and the processes that lead to them. It has been a pleasure to do so and I plan to continue to do so. I thank all of you that have purchased products from me and hope you continue to do so. I hope all this helps, Obi-Wan

LOL,, Everyone has different levels of what they consider "acceptable", that's where the difference lies. Everyone with chrome grills (got rid of mine a long time ago), should look under the fins, and on the vertical fins. That's the difference between show quality and run of the mill chrome work.

There are lots of people it seems with more money than brains in this big round world ... and even a good handful that will even go so far as to lay on their backs to justify spending that money needlessly on something that can hardly be seen ... Custom Coatings, in their day, did a fantastic job on my "run of the mill chrome work" and again ... at $300.00 is a 1/4 of this "option" as I would NOT have a chrome grille at this price, couldn't afford it. No offense to Obi-wan ... but as Halicat said ... this really SHOULD be in classifieds, no? This message has been edited by Ray on 11-19-2005 at 09:12 PM

Your on the boarder of pissing me off Ray. You have been on the edge for awhile now. You want to over? Or will be the same meek exit from you when you tried to stir the pot up with Mike K on the vendor post? I have had BOTH grills, from BOTH vendors. Both promised show quality work. (know what that is?) Both were inferior IMO. I didn't have to lay on my back to see the difference. Stay with what you have, no one will know the difference. It's the little details that make the difference between what is done right, and what is "run of the mill". I have much more brains then money, maybe a higher level of what is "acceptable", but much more brains than money.

Have to add, (rather than edit previous posts)If you walk up to chrome grill, (that has been at least polished). The top fins reflect what the bottom of the fins look like. (get it, like a mirror). So, if the bottom of the fins are not finished, that is what you see. Like a mirror, get it?? no need to lay on your back. Does not even take a lot of brains to figure that one out, does it? Ok, I'm done for now, except this. I have not see Scott's current grill, we live about 2 miles from each other. Nor will I have another chrome grill. But I do know this has been a obsession with Scott to get a high quality grill out. All of his final products are very high standard. Most of my car's hardware has been dressed out by his stainless, polished, or chrome bolts, nut covers, caps.

Ok Buddy, for you I will, . thanks BTW all my pics from Curtis's daughter Amanda's wedding didn't turn out that great in the lighted room. It was great to see you again, and such a good time at the wedding. Curtis and Kathy were beaming, along with the bride and groom.

Hey JD, It was really great to see you again too, and have some time to talk. Was especially nice to meet your "Better Half"! My pics turned out dark and are hard to see also, except for the ones I took outside. Oh, and by the way, I'm not cussin' you anymore for suggesting to Felici that we visit Yosemite on Saturday, as "it's only 1 1/2 hours away"...(LOL). We went there Saturday after all and had a great time although we didnt get to stay too long. We want to go back when we can really spend some time there. Did you see Curtis dancing??? I had no idea he was such a good dancer! He sure had some energy that night didnt he? And you are right, he and Kathy were Beaming! Getting back to Chrome Grills, Im sure if Scott makes it, it will be Perfect. He's quite a character (and perfectionist). Got to meet him in August... Your pal Buddy.Curtis, Amanda and Kathy at the wedding

If somebody wants a cheap grill go for the door trim on the fins. I've seen many of those and they look just as good as the price. As A matter of fact they're kind of an insult at about 20 bucks. If you want show class than go with Obi-Wan. JMHO. I also have the Florida grill and it's not show class. Yah gets what yah pay for.

This should have been posted in the Classified section with the Heading " Super Hi-Quality Chrome Grill for Sale""not here... people are less likely to be critical there, It was posted in Discussion and that's what you got.....DISCUSSION.....! maybe DC doesn't patrol this forum section as much as the classified section searching for their pound of flesh... by the way....Nice work Scott, it really does looks great ! but I really like the $20 trashy look....

For a couple of years now, I have had stainless grill, one of 30, and think it is the Kat's Meow, but I think it is people like Obi-won that should be thanked for going that extra yard to obtain quality products for our vehicles. I have a couple of his products and they are A+. IMHO
