Ever since I was in my teens I wanted to have one .......in red.

Question for y'all ......is it a rather RARE car/model year ?

Are they hard to find these days or considered 'collectors' ?

Thanks for ANY info ..... I sure would love to own one at some point.

In my opinion, a good one is a challenge to find without having to give an arm and a leg. Great body style but they quickly rusted in many parts of the country. I have a friend with a survivor white Fury. The car is just gorgeous. If you want one, be prepared for the hunt.

I don't think I have ever seen a red one!! I have a friend that owns the one that set the "flying mile" record at Daytona in '57. It is biege with that gold stuff going down the side...I believe it is a 318 with 2 4 barrels. I know it isn't a Hemi. I assume the Hemis was available in the Furys...the D500 '57 Dodge was a hemi car. I was 14 then and car crazy...I am 62 now and still car crazy!!

Man, talk about memory lane. I got married and decided that a married guy did not need a convertible.......So- I traded my black 57 Chevy convertible for a black 57 Plymouth Fury. Push button gear shift and all. Boy do I wish I still had either one of them. Good luck finding one cause I haven't seen one around Birmingham in years.

Everything rusted back then. The hooded headlights caught all the road grit and rusted out. The rear fenders were a mess around the wheel wells. Even the bumpers rusted.
But they sure were stylish looking cars. Good luck with the search. It will be tough to find a nice one and an owner willing to give it up.

I had a 1957 Desoto Adventurer hardtop, Red with a white accent spear on the side, which was basically the same car as the Fury except it had a few more bell and whistles, OEM motor i think was a 345-HP, but the motor in mine was Factory ordered Dual quad 390 HP, it passed every thing except the gas station (REMEMBER WHEN YOU WENT TO THE DEALER AND FILLED OUT THE BUILD SHEET}.
Wish i still had that one, OH WELL.

OH YEAH the rear fins were actually bigger than Cadillac's

Dustis,
Please be very cautious with your decision! I recommend you rent the Steven King Thriller 'Christine'....watch it and you will understand. I think my Susie has a bit of Christine in her because on occasion, I swear, I can see her grill snarl a bit!

I have had a 57 and 59 and those saying they were bad about rusting is so right but all car back then from areas where they used salt on roads in winters rusted but I think Chrys.cars were worst. One reason we dont see that much rust now is cars are made of of so much plastic, bumper covers, spoilers, rocker flairs etc.

My grandpa had one that he bought new in blue. He died a few years ago and still had the car. He still had the clear plastic seat covers on it the dealership installed for him and it had 64k miles on it. Looked brand new and drove and ran great. I couldn't get to the auction in time and it sold for $400!!!! Very sad!!!! Someone got a great deal!! T

Dusti - Here's a link to our local Mopar Club's site. One of the members has a real nice modified '59 Belvedere. Check out the engine photos!
