Buddy Holly opens for Elvis Presley in Lubbock, Texas. 1955

1960s
The youth-oriented International Times publication starts in England. Pink Floyd performs at the launch party. 1966

After touring Scandinavia as The New Yardbirds, Led Zeppelin makes its first appearance with its new moniker. 1968

1970s
“If memories are all I sing, I’d rather drive a truck.” When ‘50s teen idol Rick (then known as “Ricky”) Nelson tries to put the past behind him and play new material at a Madison Square Garden oldies show he is booed. The experience prompts Nelson to write and record his last major hit “Garden Party.” 1971

A 1971 Federal Communications Commission (F.C.C.) directive that broadcasters censor songs with drug-oriented lyrics goes unchallenged by the Supreme Court when they refuse to review the case. So much for free speech. 1973

“Alice Cooper’s Greatest Hits” goes gold as frontman Alice (a.k.a. Vincent Furnier) plans to ditch the group and go solo. The rest of the group continues briefly as Billion Dollar Babies. 1974

Can this marriage be saved? No. Ike and Tina Turner cease performing together. 1976

One of the most successful albums of all time, Fleetwood Mac’s “Rumours” is released. 1977

1980s
Despite not being as strong as the two preceding albums, The Cars’ third album “Panorama” goes platinum. 1980

1990s
Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee is charged with attacking a photographer outside an L.A. club when the fellow tries to take a picture of Lee and then-wife Pamela Anderson. 1996

2000s
Former KISS guitarist Bruce Kulick is shot in the leg outside a West Hollywood club. He is treated and released. A man, apparently drunk, opened fire hiting Kulick and a friend. Kulick joined KISS in ’84 and left in the mid-90s. 2003

U2 performs the live debut of “Vertigo,” on Britain`s Top of the Pops TV show. It’s the first single from their “How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb” LP. Also, Paul McCartney and Neil Young appear at an Adopt-A-Minefield gala in Los Angeles. Aerosmith and Kid Rock donate items for an auction. Clearing out minefields in war torn areas is a major cause of Paul and Heather McCartney. And for all the lonely people without Friday night dates, NBC`s Tonight Show With Jay Leno has Chevelle while Sum 41 appears on Late Night With Conan O`Brien.
