I didn't catch how the drivers made out. Very scary.

That crash happened just south of Dallas in Ennis. Both drivers will be ok. Here's a quote from one of the guys there that night:

I am still stunned at the magnitude of damage and force from this wreck. It is simply the most stunning wreck I have ever seen in Drag racing. The safety equipment did its job and so did the Hass car. It dissipated the energy of the wreck by blowing everything off the car the way it should have and the roll cage is in tact. Bruce will go home from the Hospital today. he is badly bruised and a little burned but nothing is broken. Looking at the pieces (Two trailer loads of just pieces) from this wreck, its amazing he was not hurt badly. I think there was an angel on the track last night.

Cousin Tami - correct me if I'm wrong,,,,but it was Kenny Koretsky [left lane] that went to the hospital, not Bruce Allen. Watching it,,,I thought Allen would be the worst injured, but not so, according to my understanding. Kenny had a crushed rib cage and heart muscle from the impact of the engine from Allen's car coming back through his windshield???????? I heard Allen basically walked away

AC: Could be. I'll have to check into it further here in town to see if there are any other news reports (which I'm sure there are). Just took that from the local track.

Here ya go - apparently both went to the hospital, but Allen, the driver that crossed the track was already released.

Quote from NHRA site;

Dallas, Saturday: Kenny Koretsky was resting comfortably, albeit painfully, Saturday afternoon at Parkland Medical Center in Dallas following a spectacular drag racing accident he experienced Friday night at Texas Motorplex in nearby Ennis.

“It feels like my chest is crushed,” said Koretsky from his hospital bed. “My neck, right arm and hand hurt and the doctors think I may have a bruised heart. The doctors want to run a few more tests before they release me.”

Considering the severity of the impact when Koretsky’s Nitro Fish Wear Dodge Stratus struck Bruce Allen’s Pontiac near the finish line, the fact neither driver received broken bones or serious injuries is testimony to the safety of the race cars.

Koretsky was about to complete his quarter-mile qualifying run in the left lane when Allen’s car went out of control, turned left on its right side and crossed into Koretsky’s lane. The collision knocked the engine from Allen’s car, sending it skidding down the track.

Koretsky, of Richboro, Pa., didn’t know what hit him.

“All I remember is Bruce’s motor coming through the windshield” he recalled. “It was such a hard hit. That’s the hardest hit I’ve ever experienced. I was moving along real well and all of a sudden I came to a dead stop. I didn’t even see him.”

“Bruce and I were very fortunate we weren’t more seriously hurt. The seat belts did their job but they left serious marks on me.”

“The computer that measures the g-forces in Kenny’s car showed a plus 2.5 reading, but it immediately went to minus 6.5 – the highest it reports – when they hit each other,” said Guarnaccia.

Allen, of Arlington, Texas, was released from Parkland Medical Center Saturday afternoon.

This was posted on the T Bucket board a few days ago and it is certainly a bad one...but the worst one I have EVER seen was when Swede Savage was killed at Indy in '73. I was sitting in NW Vista when he clipped the outside wall in the middle of turn 4 and careened across the track hitting the inside pit wall at over 200 mph. The car rolled up into a ball and rolled to the start/finish line (3/8 of a mile)

I sent my brother the clip, and he told me he was there!
He said the car that lost control actually went 'airborne' first, came back down, BEFORE losing control and crossing over.... simply 'not in the groove' was the way he put it.

Geno: That's exactly what I thought - not in the groove and that is so important on a 1/4 mile track. It's way to hard to control if you don't keep your front tires where they need to be. T
