Bob Dylan plays New York’s Carnegie Hall. Few show up, and those that do, are mostly friends. 1961

Eric Clapton joins the Yardbirds. 1963

Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Green River” containing “Born On The Bayou” tops the charts. Also, Crosby, Stills & Nash release their ode to Judy Collins, “Suite: Judy Blue Eyes.” 1969

1970s
Janis Joplin dies from what is termed an “accidental heroin overdose.” She checks out before fellow ‘60s icons Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison. 1970

A Stephen Stills & Manassas concert in San Francisco turns into a CSN&Y reunion when David Crosby, Graham Nash and Neil Young join the group onstage. 1973

Pink Floyd’s album “Wish You Were Here” tops the charts. 1975

1980s
Queen’s thumping, bass driven, “Another One Bites The Dust” tops the singles chart. Also, Mick Fleetwood, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks present a platinum record to the USC Marching Band for their contributions to “Tusk.” 1980

Muggers attack CBS News anchor Dan Rather and yell “What’s The Frequency Kenneth?” Later, R.E.M. turns this bizarre incident into a song. 1986

1990s
Smashing Pumpkins release their “Pisces Iscariot” album. 1994

Gary Cherone, a former member of Extreme, becomes Van Halen’s new, if short lived, vocalist. He replaces Sammy Hagar. 1996

2000s
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band conclude their 2002-03 world tour at NY’s Shea Stadium. It’s the 120th show of the 14 month tour. Bob Dylan shows up to perform “Highway 61 Revisited.” 2003

Best Band In The World? According to the Q Awards, held in London, it’s the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Meanwhile, Elton John takes the stage to rip Madonna’s nomination as the Best Live Act. "Since when has lip-synching been live?" John asks rhetorically. "Anyone who lip-synchs in public on stage when you pay to see them should be shot.” That’s why we have awards shows. 2004
