I think I average about 21 but never did a long term calculation. I have seen the mirror computer show 99 MPG in the Candy while coasting downhill but I rarely get more than 200 miles out of a tank full.
A/C used to post he got 300 miles out of a tank full but I would like to hear it from someone I can believe. lol

Ed - I got 280 once, and 290 another time in the silver cat averaging around 26mpg on road trips [flat land interstate, and speed between 65 to 70, top up,, no a/c on]. The silver cat usually gets over 24.5 mpg even when I push it fast down the road. On the other hand,,,Lethia's cat doesn't do nearly as well,,,22 to 23 tops on the road,,same conditions.

The orange cat still has the stock air filter box,,while the silver has the first generation 'long tube' cone filter,,, MTD air system.

The best I have ever done is 22 mpg and 20 mpg pulling the trailer when the trailer is loaded for a trip.

230 miles on road at 75 - no trailer
200 miles on road with trailer

190 - 200 in daily driving

Driving the car home from Arizona last spring, tracked mileage and got a high of just over 29mpg (must have had a tail wind thru New Mexico) to low of 23mpg. 1940 miles in 34 hours, straight thru. Averaging around 23-24mpg these days.

Ed,
(I address this to you as you are still biker trash! Heh!)

Altho THIS doesn't pertain to Prowler MPG, when I owned my 2002 GL1800 Gold Wing, I consistently got superior mileage in upstate New York (Lake George area = Americade) than I ever did right here in Monkeyville, Alabama. I don't know exactly what physics come into play, but NY owners always boasted about their fantastic mileage--and I was muy skeptical--UNTIL I experienced it firsthand! There was nearly 10 miles per gallon difference! So, experiencing IS believing! Viva le difference!

Oh, yeah! Prowler mileage? About 20 per ~ locally!

Ed - there,,you have it. If Scooter would have drove it to empty,,he would have got 330+ miles out of a full tank. My best mpg figures came from Holbrook,Az to Raton, N.M. where I averaged 27.4 mpg

Thanks for the post Scooter!

BC Grey Ghost, that was the post that got me thinking about it. When we went to the Dells everyone still had more gas showing on their mirror computer than me but I finally figured out that once I got down to 40 miles left in the tank, it stayed there for about 20 miles. I was also pulling the trailer which affected it.
Ty-K, what were you getting on the 1800? I get 38-39 usually in mixed driving. I weigh more than you and Sandy is with me sometimes and I have the golf clubs a lot of the time. They creat wind resistance even if they don't weigh a lot.

I wonder if the improved MPG could be related to a change in the elevation of the starting and ending points of a trip. I noticed one that I got really good MPG going somewhere but worse on the return home. The only difference was the elevation change. Back in the 70's Ford ran an add on what good MPG a car got from Phoenix to LA and later had to pull the ad because of the very thing I mentioned above!

What do you think?

If your are driving from a higher elevation to a lower one you are basically going down hill!

May be....But....What if you are backing from a higher elevation to a lower elevation? Inquiring minds want to know!! Are you still "going downhill"? Are you coming..or..going downhill? JK
