Heavyweight guitarist Randy Bachman (Guess Who & BTO) is born in Winnipeg. 1943

Like a bat out of hell, Meatloaf is born. 1947

1960s
The Beach Boys appear on The Ed Sullivan Show for the first time and perform "I Get Around." 1964

Santana`s debut hits the album charts. 1969

Creedence Clearwater Revival`s "Green River" is one of several of their songs to just miss the #1 spot. It peaks at #2. 1969

1970s
Rory Storm commits suicide. Rory Storm & the Hurricanes once had The Beatles` Ringo Starr as a member. In fact, Ringo left Storm to join The Beatles. 1972

It`s reported that Carlos Santana, a disciple of Sri Chinmoy, has changed his name to Devadip (The Lamp of the Light Supreme) but will keep the name Santana for the group. 1973

Blondie, with Debbie Harry, releases "Eat To The Beat." 1979

The second album from The Police, "Regatta de Blanc" is released. 1979

1980s
The Beatles` version of "Twist And Shout" hits the charts again thanks to appearances in the films Ferris Bueller`s Day Off and Back To School. The song was originally recorded by the Isley Brothers. 1986

The Run DMC/Aerosmith version of "Walk This Way" becomes one of the first, if not the first, Rap/Rock mixes. It peaks at #4 which is the best Aerosmith has done in a long, long time. 1986

2000s Emergency dental surgery forces Slipknot`s Craig (#5) Jones to temporarily bow out of the group`s European tour. It’s the first time a member has missed a show in the group’s history. Bandmate Sid Wilson fills in for the sampler/programmer. On the legal front, a L.A. court rules that The Doors of the 21st Century can continue using the moniker. A suit filed by original Doors drummer John Densmore attempted to stop ex- bandmates Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger from using the name. Also, "Rock n` Roll" is re-issued in the U.K. Produced by Phil Spector, the `75 John Lennon album has covers of Chuck Berry, Gene Vincent, Fats Domino, Little Richard and Buddy Holly songs. Four previously unreleased tracks are added. In other Spector related news, he is officially indicted for the murder of actress Lana Clarkson who died in his home nearly two years earlier. Spector claims Clarkson committed suicide but a grand jury doesn’t buy it. And lastly, drummer Mick Fleetwood introduces his Private Cellar wine at New York`s Grand Hyatt Hotel. 2004
