1960's
"The Monkees" TV show premiers. After passing on Steven Stills and Three Dog Night’s Danny Hutton, the producers settle on Mickey Dolenz, Peter Tork, Mike Nesmith and Brit Davy Jones to be the mock-Beatles. It’s 30 minutes of “A Hard Day’s Night” take-offs each week. The show lasts a little over two years and manages to sell millions of records. 1966

Aerosmith’s debut album hits the gold record mark. 1975
1980's
Morrisey leaves The Smiths to go solo. Also, the Los Lobos version of Ritchie Valens’ “La Bamba” tops the charts. 1987

1990's
Having endured the Fleetwood Mac soap opera both Christine McVie and Stevie Nicks announce they’re leaving following the current tour. They do, but return through the ‘90s. 1990
U2’s “Even Better Than The Real Thing” cracks the Top 40 but goes no further. Meanwhile, Eric Clapton’s “Unplugged” set enters the album charts. It contains a version of "Layla," sells millions of copies and even wins a Grammy. Billy Joel, John Mellencamp and Bono cover Elvis songs for the “Honeymoon In Vegas” soundtrack and it too makes the charts. 1992
Oasis cancels two-thirds of its U.S. tour due to “internal differences” (no surprise there). 1996
2000's
One of Rock ‘n’ Roll’s founders and Country legend, Johnny Cash dies of complications from diabetes. The 71 year-old singer/songwriter had an amazing career spanning six decades - even earning an MTV Video nomination (for “Hurt”) earlier in the year. 2003
Saliva`s "Survival of the Sickest," is the theme song for the WWE Pay-Per-View TV special Unforgiven! Wrestling and Rock make a nice combo. 2004
