My son just recently got a Smart car. It is called a Smart Fortwo for obvious reasons. The car is a bit of a rage especially with the younger crowd. I have to say, I have driven it, and it is an absolute blast to drive. It is a ton of fun. While it may look like a death trap to some, the car is actually pretty safe. The car is built on a tridion cell (effectively a roll cage) and has driver, passenger and side airbags. Smart was developed by Mercedes Safety
Video Review #1 Video Review #2 Don't forget, pricing is Canadian dollars. In US dollars, they would likely be $15,000 and up. These are currently not available in the US (unless modified) but are likely to come in the next year or two. Highway mileage is close to 100 mpg.
Some neat features: Color body panels are plastic and can come off. You can buy an extra set of panels and switch your car to a different color whenever you wish Automatic shifting at the push of a button, otherwise clutchless standard Power roof engine is in rear below trunk (and yes there really is a trunk) significantly more driver/passenger room than any other small car I have been in side rails above side windows come off and fit in stoage area inside back hatch black circle that looks like gas cap on drivers side is actually air intake modular accessory system that allow cd holders/cup holders/ashtrays etc under dash dash rev indicator and clock can turn to any angle this particular car has "Brabus" (a Mercedes tuner)accessories including front spoiler, chrome mirror covers, rear aluminum piece, aluminum interior accents.

Those are cool cars. I think they are trying to make a profitable business case before importing them to the US. DC has yet to make a profit on them since intro back in '98.Rkstr

Kinda cute,,,,,,,hate to get hit in it even though they may claim to be safe. I'd put Toyota T R D decals on the sideS, lol.

I have seen them for the past few years now all over the roads in Germany on my trips there. I have not had the chance to drive one, but have to admit with today's gas prices they make a sensible transportation alternative. In Germany, they are also very sensible due to the small roads and cramed parking spaces. I see them parked in spots that most bikes won't fit into. And they certainly keep up a decent pace with all of the autobahn traffic. Let us know how he likes it.

I liked everything about it, even considering fuel efficiency over lack of power except, IT IS DIESEL! THAT, to me, is an instant TURNOFF! But others may not care one way or another--I would NEVER own a diesel car!

I know my son's been eyeing one for a while...he still has 2 years to go before he can get his driver's license. I drove one of these also and it truly is a blast.....like a oversized go cart!

there were about 8 or 10 of them at Woodward. They had more room in them than the Prowler, I think.
