heads up people ! .... some info on the from the National Hurrican Center regarding this years season.... In Nova Scotia the hurricanes usually hit the cold water that surrounds the province and down grade quickly.... When Juan hit.. the waters were unusually warm and it didn't slow at all.... we got nailed ... the effects of global warming is the blame.... This year the water is 2 degrees warmer than when Juan hit....and we are not prepared.... Aug. 2, 2005 — A very active Atlantic hurricane season is underway, and with more storms projected, NOAA today increased the number of storms in its 2005 hurricane season outlook. NOAA expects an additional 11 to 14 tropical storms from August through November, with seven to nine becoming hurricanes, including three to five major hurricanes. In total, this season is likely to yield 18 to 21 tropical storms, with nine to 11 becoming hurricanes, including five to seven major hurricanes. “Knowing precisely where a hurricane will strike and at what intensity cannot be determined even a few days in advance,” said Max Mayfield, director of the NOAA National Hurricane Center. Mayfield adds, “Residents and government agencies of coastal and near-coastal regions should embrace hurricane preparedness efforts and should be ready well before a tropical storm or hurricane watch is posted.” (Click NOAA image for larger view of the sea surface temperatures in the Atlantic Ocean. I think all homes in hurricane areas should be built of concrete and be miniature pyramids or hemispheres. That way, they would be impervious to flying debris and there would be very little of it flying around, since there would be no wood construction materials to become airborne. It wouldn't make for very attractive neighborhoods, but then hurricanes would be reduced to minor inconveniences.

a great example of "thinking outside the box"....how about this one... getting the Navy to tow a bunch of icebergs down to the danger areas to chill the waters ..

"getting the Navy to tow a bunch of icebergs down to the danger areas to chill the waters" ................The problem with that, is that there is already too much of the polar ice cap melting. This would just make it worse. If too much more of the ice cap melts, half of Alabama and Mississippi will be under water, along with most of Florida.
