The thread on buying on ebay got me thinking. My husband buys lots of stuff on ebay - mostly computer parts, but also lots of car parts and the Prowler. We've sold various things as well (car parts, horse trailer, computer parts). Probably the strangest thing we've bought was a "brain" machine - excess (and old) medical equipment. Jim's dad was working on inventing an alarm system to alert drivers when they would run off the road. So the plan was to get someone really sleepy, and monitor their brain patterns while they drove a simulator on a computer. But the funny thing was I came home from work one day to find Jim had hooked the sensors to one of the kids' heads and was playing with the darn thing. (it is a passive machine - kid was not in any danger)

So anyway -- what's the weirdest thing you have bought on ebay or similar internet auction site? Just curious.

Janet
(of course I think the Prowler was our best ebay purchase!)

I paid $75,000 for a piece of toast with the image of the Virgin Mary. I think I got ripped off because I think it is actually an image of Madonna. You be the judge.

I have been buying and selling on eBay for about 8 years now. I have purchased everything from a 50 cent postcard to $28,000.00 for my Prowler. Also bought a '97 Lincoln Executive Limo and my PT Cruiser off eBay.
My most unusual thing was a small piece of coal off the Titanic for $15.00. Also just bought an autographed LP Jimmy Buffett record album.
I check it every day for any interesting vintage boating items and have bought a bunch of Prowler gear. If you have never sold anything on eBay you should give it a try, it's fun watching your item increase in price then go wild just before the auction close.
As for bad experiences, I have only had a couple, and they were really no big thing. I have sold well over 1,000 items and bought that many plus some!

Found my Prowler on eBay from a guy in Philly a couple of years ago.

Also found a Jimi Hendrix "Are You Experienced" LP on eBay signed by Jimi Hendrix, Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell. The signatures have been analyzed and authenticated by a NY state court-certified forensic handwriting analyst.
