OK Larry (TUIB), here's one for the masses:

What famous TV producer played a bartender in Gunsmoke?

Well, Sam the bartender was played by Glenn Strange, Clem the bartender was played by Clem Fuller, Rudy the bartender was played by Rudy Sooter and Floyd the bartender was played by Robert Brubaker. All four had very long careers on stage and screen, but I see nothing in their bios that says they went into producing. So I guess it is not these four.

The story goes that Wayne was approached for the Dillon role, but declined it. He personally recommended Arness.

BTW: My source indicates that Gerry Marshall
(Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley, Mork & Mindy, Joannie loves Chachie) was a bartender on Gunsmoke. For how long and how many episodes is not clear.

was Gary Marshall on the TV Gunsmoke or the radio version???

more interesting Gunsmoke trivia....William Conrad(Cannon) was the voice of Matt Dillon on the radio Gunsmoke....when I was living in China they broadcast old American radio shows....TV was minimal, at least in English, so we listened to the radio programs most every night.....Gunsmoke, the Shadow, Fibber Magee, Jack Benny.....some really odd stuff....found it quite entertaining sometimes...
