Route through Chicago, as shown, could get difficult...however, there is so much construction going on that it changes on a regular basis.... The route shown, the interstate right up through downtown, has actually proven to be quicker than the loop around town the last few times I've been through there; however the last time for me has been a few months ago.

Chicago residents .. current construction areas???

The rest of it is actually probably the best way to go, Ed.... IF you have to go through Chicago at all... which is probably where you're heading!?

While I haven't been thru the Chicago area recently, I generally avoid it like the plague. Here's a link to a site that lists the current construction projects in the area. http://www.illinoisroads.info/projects.asp

Ed, you're right about the possibility of adding unforeseen hours to a trip. It's happened to me more often than I care to remember. Not every time, but enough to know better.
