I really like the theme from the Pink Panther movies. It instantly brings Peter Sellers to mind and pretty funny movies.
The James Bond theme is very recognizable from the same era but I don't think it is nearly as good.

....I always liked the song "Thunder Road" by Robert Mitchum.....from the movie "Thunder Road" staring Robert Mitchum....

....not sure if it is considered a theme song, but the beginning of "Apocalypse Now"....the Doors song "the End" is a most fitting piece....

Ty-K, I was thinking more of movies than TV but I agree the theme from 5-0 was huge. Earlier times they used to play the song from Peter Gunn, over and over, but that was in the 50s. I liked that one too.
The TV show SPORTS NIGHT did not last long but one episode featured "Eli's coming" and I have had that in my head ever since.

I bet I have watched Thunder Road well over a hundred times thru the years....it was on a couple times per week for years when I was a kid.....I knew his son was in the show, never followed his dads footsteps......a few years ago my wife and mother in law ran into Robert Mitchum at an airport....they used the same wheelchair he had just used.....he died shortly there after....rarely see the beginning of the movie where he flips the 49-50 Ford.....the TV channels usually cut the beginning off.....great old movie...

ps...could I beg a copy ???

I like the Guns 'N Roses version of Live and Let Die. Also, the Maximum Overdrive soundtrack was the AC/DC album Who Made Who.

tangled,
sure ya' can beg a copy IF I can dupe it--let me find the DVD tonight & see if it's copyable! If so, I'll PM ya'!

(a little trivia that means nothing to anyone: My first car was a blue 4-dr '58 Pontiac Chieftan...and I stenciled the words "Thunder Road" on the front sides of each fender--yeah I was very juvenile in those days -- only '18' years old)

...I was always a big fan of 57 Fords, because of that movie I guess...my dad had 2-57 Ford convertables that were just alike....both were red/white/black tops with red/white interiors....

I still love the entire soundtrack from Easy Rider, starring Dennis Hopper and Peter Fonda.

I especially like "Don't Bogart Me" (aka "Don't Bogart That Joint") by Fraternity of Man.

Born to be Wild by Steppenwolf was the theme song for the movie I believe and very fitting.

I think the same 'Steppenwolf' soundtrack is on FLASHBACK (1990), starring Dennis Hopper & Kiefer Sutherland! Another Excellent Flick, BTW!

This will seem an eclectic answer, but then it's your question:

From TV: Miami Vice - Jan Hammer
Brian (Picalo)'s Song - Michel Legrand

from motion picture
Theme from "Somewhere in Time" - John Barry (who also wrote most of the James Bond themes).
Chariots of Fire - Vangelis

Any of Clint's "spagetti westerns (and you can't turn them loud enough):

"The Good, the Bad, & The Ugly" - Hugo Montenegro
"Hang 'em High" - Booker T & the MG's

There have been a lot of great songs and great movies. Don't know that I have an absolute favorite.........but "Pretty Woman" is a classic and so is the song.........

I know, I know.......but I'm a woman!
