I did!! 1969. Spent a month there hauling radar equipment to the top of the mountains for the Air Force with CH-47's. But, it was not ALL work. I got to be there for the beginning of the time trials and even helped them test the speed reading equipment with a deuce and a half. Averaged 61 MPH on both runs. Someone said I got my picture in one of the car magazines with a caption under it which said "The Army was here too", but I never saw it.

I know, Not the kind of experience you were looking for, but it was exciting to me just being there. I have lots of pictures somewhere up in the attic all boxed up. You make me want to go find them. Surely someone has "REALLY" driven on the Salt Flats in something besides a big truck.

61 in a deuce and a half was flying, too. What a nice ride!!. I was in Korea in 66 and we had to ride in the back of those from our post out in the boonies to the big camp, Camp Red Cloud. It was sure nice on those fabulous roads, especially in the dead of Winter.
Rich Ware lived in Salt Lake City and had street rods so he may have driven on it. I still have never seen it. I was only in Salt Lake City once for a very sort time. You don't hear much about it anymore but in the 50s and 60s you surely did.

Never driven it, but my brother and I are thinking about going out next year for Speed Week. Has anyone ever done that and if so what would you recommend?

Thanks
Dale
