My young son was in Dallas last week. While waiting on his flight this guy comes over sits down next to him. They shoot the bull and finally my son says to the stranger:

"You look familiar to me." And my son says he's been doing some big events in Florida, Texas, California, Kansas City, etc. The stranger says he does a few pretty big events too. They compare travel schedules for a few minutes and my son can't figure out where he knows the guy from.

So finally after about 15 minutes of shootin' the breeze my son introduces himself. The stranger says "Hi I'm Ted Nugent."

Then my son say, "What line of work are you in?"

My dad used to do business with Ted quite often in the 1980's. Ted owned a mink farm in Michigan for several years and my dad would sell truckloads of meat products to him for feed and would buy the byproducts of the mink business and would sell it to someone else. My dad always said that Ted was a great business man and was very polite and professional.

That story used to go over well back in the 1980's. It appears that nowadays many folks don't even know who Ted Nugent is...

Several years back at a Hunting & Fishing trade show I had the chance to listen to Ted talk about Hunting and how the Hunters really are the ones responsible for the money that is used to help manage the wildlife and bring the population counts up every year even with larger harvest's. I can say it really was not what I expected, he presented himself in a very professional manner even when some young reporter started in on him, I thought the gloves were gonna come off cause this kid would not shut up about murdering all these animals, Ted must have gotten his point across because at the closing he sang his song about Mr. Bear ( the Bow Guy ) and the kid that was all in his face stood up applauded. I have a couple of times to see him off the stage not dealing with his music and he is a just a man that has had the good fortune to be able to do what he has a passion for and he puts him self out in the public eye to be attacked by narrow minded people who just don't understand. I am not a avid hunter and probably never will be, but the seminar he gave did not really change my mind but made me understand. Your son was very lucky to spend a little one on one time with him.

Jackson, MI-not far from Michigan International Speedway was home to Nugent, his huge hunting preserve and headquarters for his line of hunting gear. Not too long ago he moved his family to Austin Texas area (he claims to love it there) after discovering a big mold problem in his previous home.
Nugent and the Amboy Dukes "Journey to the center of your mind" Bob Seger, Mitch Ryder, Rare Earth, all of Motown..exciting music times around Michigan.

i remember Amboy Dukes very well... that song was well ahead of its time.... it was when i first became a fan of Ted.... how about this one...
do you remember MC5 ?
they had a song out called "Kick out the Jams" in the 60's there were 2 versions of the song...
and one was sporting the "f" word....
a hard album to find...
I listened to it on the underground radio station in Detroit called WABX it was on FM....

great memories !!

Of course I remember MC5 (Motor City 5)! I loved "Kick Out the Jams." I found a CD of theirs with the original ("F" word) included. They toured through the DC area last summer, but not with the original line up.

I also liked Blue Cheer, "Summertime Blues" and I have that on CD too!

True story. I made out with Karen Nugent, Ted's niece, at a party in 1980. Just thought that was worth adding to this conversation.
