San Jose Shark fan here. I think it sucks, but not going to lose any sleep over it. Quite a standoff.

the game went from " the love of the game" to big egos and big money...
total dissapointment....
the guys holding out for the big money are ones who have already made big money....
the younger kids are the ones that will pay the price for this greedfest.......
in the stock market they call it a correction...
wait till they try to get it all going again , then they will really find out how the fans feel..

Maybe the NBA could do us all a favor and cancel their season as well............ At least Hockey has some CLASS!

The Glendale Sports Complex said that the cancelled Coyote games will make it possible for them [City of Glendale, Az] to make more money renting out the complex for concerts, etc.

Personally, I'm not a ice hockey fan. Too low scoring for me. Do/did watch the Stanley Cup finals.

Bill - where is the CLASS? I only see rowdy, beer drinkers throwing squid onto the ice at hockey games, lol.

Comeon',,,,my Suns are SHOWTIME this year, and your wishing a end to the season? I respect your opinion though.

Yet another season the NY Rangers will not make the playoffs Actually, I have bittersweet emotions to the cancelation of the season. I love hockey... The sport the game the atmosphere... But I make salary & they just laid off 50% of my staff last year so it's kind of like an extended vacation with pay

It still makes me sick though... Greed on both sides. Friend went to lunch with owner of the Devils back in Nov. He said he would be surprised if Hockey would even play in 2006... Millionaires playing a kids game & not happy with it. Hockey may never recover in the US... Every US kid has picked up a baseball or a football... Look at the last Baseball strike... Fans were up in arms, featured in the news every night... Where is that now with Hockey? Maybe in Original 6 team cites.. How is it in Tampa or Phoenix? MLB almost did not recover if it wasn't for McGuire & Sosa Juicing it. I don't think they still have...

Wild fan here. I have great seats, row 3. I will miss my hockey. I will miss the food also. It seems that all sports players what the big money. I won't miss the time commitment to attend 42 games per year. This is a great family sport and cost is reasonable.

So what's wrong with that at least they're not charging up into the stands and trying to beat the crap out of the spectators. You're right I'm ready for the season to be over 'cause I don't like any of them but good luck to your Suns. Hat trick!!!!!!!!!!!

I think the greed is only on the players part since most owners lose money. The owners problem is their egos.

Without taking sides, the players are the stupid ones here.

This makes no difference to the owners - they may actually save money.

The players however, have a limited playing career. I don't know what the average career is, but it would certainly be less than 10 years. So you just bit off 10% or more of your lifetime income. Good move!!!

If the owners actually wanted to make money at this game, they should keep the lockout going another year plus. By then, you would have almost 3 years worth of young kids eager to play for virtually any salary. You could lower ticket prices, pack the arenas and have exciting hockey full of young enthusiastic kids - the future superstars

I'm not a huge hockey fan.........although I do watch the Red Wings! I would hate to see Yzerman have to end his career on this kind of note...........I think it's a shame and everyone (especially the fans) loses.

Well CJ no octopuses lost their lives for hockey this year! First Red Wings game I went to must have had 100 hit the ice.

I know you do not think of San Diego as a hockey town, but we have a minor league team here, the San Diego Gulls, that was not affected by the strike. For $5 you can go to a game, drink beer, and even stand by the ice and see a decent game of hockey. These are guys that play for the love of the game.

We lost to Wheeling Nailers last night. No one in San Diego even noticed the NHL was missing.

XP The same thing occurs here in Johnstown with our minor league team. They have actually benefited from the Penguins not playing because fans can come here and still see hockey. I haven't personally gone in about ten years, but I used to be a fan.

We might have a hockey team. We have had about 5 over the years. I took the kids with free tickets and told them the second HALF was over and left after the second period. Only hockey I ever watched in my life. 2/3rds of one game.
I really am not sure if we still have a minor league team.
One team we had was called the Stingers. I think they are long gone.

We have the IHL here. It's not bad, but attendance is REALLY down. Depressed economy (double digit unemployment), less dissposable income. Three of the Red Wings signed on with another IHL team & came here last week. Standing Room Only ! But then the Wings players were the draw. For my 2 cents,............can we say
Baseball 1994. Look at the damage done there. It wasn't until MacGwuire set his sights on the HR record that I paid any interest in it at all. I've never forgiven either side. As for the NHL & the players, why are they so sure that HOCKEY is different & that the fans will be there enmass, just as before?
Sorry gang, this is exactly why I love Collegent Football (GO BLUE). These kids want to win. They don't get paid for "showing up". I'm a Union retiree (that alone will P.O. some POA members), but I find it immoral to pay anyone $75 million to play "a game". The owners are no damn different. When it costs me $100+ to take a family of four to a ball game, expect a municipality to BUILD/pay for a new stadium (only to move the team after a year or two),don't count on seeing me there.............
OK, where's my blood pressue medicine............

ya gotta feel for the new teams in columbus, nashville and atlanta... this was make or break for them.
the loss of interest by the fans in these cities will hit them hard.... toronto, montreal and most of the canadian cities will carry on without a hic up.....
it will be interesting to see if a new league can take advantage of this and establish themselves by offering lower ticket prices and attract some fans that can't afford to go nowdays..
recently they have changed the rules to accomodate the highly paid, less physical players.....big mistake.
i want to see the old style , rough , but respectfull play come back.... let them fight ! its what most fans want to see along with the skilled play....

of course what would i know... i've played my whole life... still play... coach the kids and religously watch hockey (like alot of you guys watch football).....and i must say... at 50, there are a few of the young fellows that know to watch out for #7's elbow.

Ed....

its easy to agree with you when you make such good sense !! Take away their helmets and their fancy sticks, reduce the bullet proof armor and let them fight...you will need skill to stay alive and respect will be earned not paid for....

saw a few games at Olympia with Gordie, Ted and the bunch.... now that was entertainment, and worth every cent of the $7 ticket..

Ed... keep you stick on the ice
