Got back from LA late last night. If you go must sees are:
1) Nethercutt Collection - WOW!
2) Peterson Museum - Nice muscle car collection & travel trailer exhibit.
3) Derelict Donuts - 100 to 150 cool rods and people at 7:00 AM on Saturday morning.
4) Bob's Big Boy in Burbank - Just like hanging out at the drive-in back in 68.

Now for the best part. Because of my wife's connections where we both work I was able to get a private 1 1/2 hour tour of Jay Leno's collection. It is housed in 4 large rooms in 2 warehouses. All the cars you have heard about and more where there except the one he was driving that day. They were all ready to go because he calls everyday and picks up a different one to drive. The walls had great murals or pictures of old car ads, some of which matched his cars. Lots of memorabilia and motorcycles also including a rotary and a jet engine. The OCC bike was there also. Was told a very interesting story about the OCC bike. He has a shop that can do complete restorations and is building another warehouse because he is running out of room. I took pictures but agreed not to post them on the internet. I could go on for ever, but I will just say it was once in a lifetime and great experience for a car guy.

I have a friend who's a friend of Jay's also. I haven't had the opportunity to check it out. Maybe someday. Just what i've seen on TV was exciting. He never spent a dime of his tonite show earnings on his cars. It's all from money he makes doing stand up comedy in clubs. i would like r to see reggie jackson's collection also. I'm not sure how many he owns now. He lost quite a few when they had the Fires out in Cali a few years ago. J Seinfeld owns a NYC city block where he stores his porsches. I could care less about them.

That's pretty cool to get in and see all of his toys!

I remember seeing a Barbara Walters special years ago where Jay Leno was giving her a tour of his car and bike collection. She told Jay that she really like one particular car and Jay asked her if she knew what kind of car it was and she said "It's a red one..."

While I haven't seen those, I have seen Jerry Moore's collection.

As I understand it, he currently has the largest private collection in the world.

He has many one-off Bugati's, Delahaye's, early Rolls and Bentley's. Most are appraised at several million each.

He has 4 or 5 warehouses he keeps them in and had a custom 18-wheeler made (dubbed Blue thunder) to haul several to car shows. He also commissioned a group to make a miniature version of Blue Thunder that he also parades around with.

A couple of interesting stories about this guy:

One, he got tired of waiting for service at the local Rolls dealership SO, he bought the dealership so his could always be serviced first, anytime he needed.

Two, he's a very unassuming guy. To look at him, you'd think you need to give the guy a quarter for coffee or something (ie. REALLY not into fashion). When his 20 or 30,000 sq. ft. home was finished and he was moving in, he was actually out front raking the leaves. One of the neighbors saw him, figured it was a landscaping guy and asked how much to rake his front yard. Jerry told him, "$50" and the guy hired him. Apparently, that night the Moore's had a party at their new home to welcome all their neighbors. The one neighbor wondered why they asked the yard man to the party till someone pointed out that was Jerry....

Oh yeah, he also got tired of waiting for tee time at the golf course in the subdivision he lives so, you guessed it, he bought the subdivision golf course so he can tee off any time he wants.

I met Jerry and got these stories and to be friends with him a number of years ago during a car show. I have to admit, seeing him, I honestly thought he was one of the guys working on the cars......

I also asked him, "With all the cars you have, how do you decide which ones to take to a show". His response was, the ones that are easiest to get out of the warehouse.

I want these kinds of problems..............

An interesting story on the tank car. It runs 13 sec. et's now and the motor is "lazy"! They are going to take it apart and put EFI and turbos on it!! I had seen pictures of it but no feel for how big it was. It is hugh and awesome. It is one of Jay's favorites.

Also his new Ford GT was there and the guy said Jay loves it. He said it was a great driving car.

Another interesting note on my trip.

In the second garage beside a Ford F150 Lightning Extended Cab ( the only one ever made) and a dark blue late model Chevy pickup with a GM big block crate motor is a 65 GT350 and a Cobra. The Chevy truck is a gift from GM for driving the Indy Pace Car Corvette! The Cobra is one of Shelby's continuation cars. I asked if the hood on it was faded or was it the lighting and Bob said it was because the engine compartment tended to get a little hot.(?) I found out why when he lifted the hood. Sitting there was a 427 SOHC!!
