Anyone here ever been bison hunting? I love buffalo steak so I am thinking, why not.

What caliber gun and weight of grain? Any tips on this type of hunting?

Thanks

Are there any wild heards that are not on private or National Park land? I love Buffalo meat also, but I would not think hunting them would be very challenging. I would guess it would be like hunting moose. When I used to deer hunt I would occassionaly walk up on Moose. They don't run.
One Moose we saw was so big with your maked eye you could seem him miles away standing on the side of the mountain. Late that day someone with a Moose permit bagged him. He was so big they could not lift him all the way off the ground to skin him at the meat processing facility. There was not enough clearance from the top of the hoist to the ground.

Thanks.

There appear to be any number of places across the country you can do this. Most places don't require a license and hunting is year round.

Any idea on gun?

I,m not really a gun expert. I hunted with a 243. It was a good deer rifle and very light to carry. But it would nor bring down a Buffalo.
