So you did the USAF or at basic training also.
I went through San Antonio in May of 1967, spent 6 weeks in Basic training. I had the shortest T.I. (Training Instructor)there. He always had to serve as a road guard when he was in basic because he was just 5'4" so he made the 2 tallest guys do it for his Company. What a hard *** he was..Did you go to Nam?

...went from basic training at Lackland to Shepard AFB for 13 weeks of training....was a payroll specialist....then went to CCK AB in Taichung Taiwan for 18 months....then back to Lackland for another 18 months before getting out in Nov. 74...I was in 44 months, got out 4 months early to go to college...

..our first TI was a short black guy with about 83inch biceps, SGT Baty.....scared everyone to death for about 2 weeks, then turned us over to a retiring alcoholic for the next 4 weeks.....I just kept a real low profile during basic.....I just wanted to get thru it....

My D I in basic was hispanic, I think it was Sgt. Iberra or Ibanez or something similar. He was hard to understand and I was in with some double digit IQ guys. They could not figure out what "oblique" meant. Matter of fact they could not figure out "Right from Left" most of the time. He threw his clipboard down and shouted, "Jeeeeesus Christ, trainee, you have been here three weeks and you are already 4 weeks behind". That is a classic line that I still remember 40 years later. Oh, what a grand 8 weeks that was.

The 'band' I'm in plays Walk on the Wild Side... we do a medley of the Stones You Can't Always Get What You Want into Walk On the Wild Side and back into the Stones song. It's always well received...
