Not going but I live here, so give me a time and day that you might be at Hooters and I will try to get by and it would be nice to meet you Chuck. If you need any info or whatever while you're here let me know.

Wally---Your about an hour from Daytona? I have a Timeshare Saturday the 12th until Saturday the 19th (Daytona Beach). I'm having trouble finding a room for Saturday and Sunday nights 20th-21st. If you know of any motels-Hotel etc let me know. Its me and my father In law. Tom (BackinBlack) Might have room for me but it depends on who's going with him last minute. If I have to I'll head towards Orlando there won't be a problem there. I would just rather get up on Race day and not have to drive a hour to get there. Sunday night is no big deal i'm flying out of Orlando anyway!

I'm kind of surprised with 4000 members and all of us being car nuts more POA members aren't going to the "Great American Race"! Well Tom, you and me will have to represent the POA!

I still love going to this event. It has more than doubled in price since I started going in 88, but I can't get it out of my system. Maybe cost has something to do with some people not going. Hotels, flights and the race or race week themselves can really add up. I just know that as soon as the holidays are over, I start thinking about Daytona. Wed. thru Sunday is an awesome time, very electric if you ask me. The sport has gone very corporate, but this event is like the Super Bowl. I can't wait!!

I can't wait to get away from the Cold & Snow here in CT. It seems to snow every 3-4 days! At least its been so cold the snow is light and easy to move around!

I am wondering, are there a lot of NASCAR fans in our club that do follow the sport but just don't go to races. I see some posts during and after some races during the season, but not a huge amount. And if so, why? The cost, the hassle, the travel, or just not enough time? Even though the sport has changed over the years, I still find the friendliest, most accomodating fans at these races/events. Much more so than alot of other sporting events that I go to, and I go to alot. Very similar to the people that are in this club. Seeems like a perfect match to me, but there isn't a whole lot of response to Nascar stuff here. Just wondering.....

Tom, we go to the local dirt tracks, both 1/4 mile and 1/2 mile and we had season tickets to the KY Speedway for a couple of years. Partly for us it is the fact that none of the races are really close by and the tickets are rather hard to get OR pretty expensive. You can see more on TV but it is not as exciting, of course.
KY Speedway has the Bush race, the Craftsman trucks and the IRL. I don't particularly care for the IRL. My son goes to a few races every year. I am just not that "in to it", I guess.

Tom:

I'm a big NASCAR fan. I'm in the oil biz, thus have some business contacts in racing and being a North Carolina native I have been around it all my life.

I used to go to several races a year, but only make a couple a year now. I usually make one of the Charlotte and Martinsville races. With active kids, my business and other interests, it seems hard for me to find the time. Plus I've been to so many over the years many times I'd just as soon watch or listen to a race in the comfort of my home without the hassel of fighting the traffic.

Still love it though. I participate in a couple of race pools that keep my interest up.

When I worked for the sports marketing company, we built a lot of the Chevy / Pontiac rigs that you see in the midway areas (displays). Not only did we build them, but they were part of a program that had to be executed. I ran the NASCAR rig programs along with NHRA rigs/programs. I had to book the space, get the driver from point A to point B (with possible dealership visits in between), hired the temp help to assist the drivers with set-up and tear-down, hire security for the rigs, book the driver's hotels, etc. etc. etc. and dealt with any problems the driver's had while they were on the road.

I also handled the Contingency program for Chevrolet and Pontiac (all of their race venues). Been to several races, but I don't like NASCAR anywhere near as much as I like Drag Racing...........

Working for this company........I had my fill of NASCAR.
