Made a living at it for years. I presently play a Gretsch 6120 Duane Eddy Signature (orginally a Chet Atkins Country Gentleman) with a Peavey Twin 50s amp., also play a 1957 Fender Telecaster with a Finder Echo amp. I still keep in touch with Duane Eddy as a member of his Circle of Friends. Quit the weekend gigs as it is hard on a married man. Play everyday but my wife is the only one listening. Her famous question is "when are you going to learn something else?" I love it.

Simonsez,That is really cool. If I ever get up that way I would love to hear you play! Maybe pick together a bit. My skills are more along the lines of Ed's post though. I have never got to play with any real pro's. I once as a child went fishing with Hank Williams Jr. Met the members and ate dinner with rockers from Quite Riot.My best friend growing up Mike Roberts is doing the night club circuit his group is Five o-clock Charlie they had one hit out last year on the rock stations. Mike lost a finger a few years back in a lawn mower accident but he still plays great.

X-Ray. We can "pick & grin" like on Hee Haw, I'll pick and you can grin. We can perform at a Prowler event. They are usually starved for entertainment anyway.

As the unofficial unofficial of the Dells event, I would hope you would bring your guitar and amp and play away. That would be something new and different and I am sure most of us would enjoy it.

If you want to be a success, you won't want me anywhere near you. Zero musical talent, for sure. I can play the radio, but only AM.

Line 6 makes an awesome effects pedal. Good company.I still use my Zoom 505 through a Marshall with a Gibson SG.

This is a little off subject, but here goes...My 12 year old son got an electric guitar for Christmas. I know that it may be (probably will be) a passing thing that he may give up in a few months, but what would you advise a parent in a case like this. He is to start once a week 30 minute lessons next week. ------------------

If he's going to take lessons, make sure he learns music that inspires him...keep him away from Mel Bay books that teach nursery rhymes.. The lesson structure might be a turn off...I hated lessons and bailed after a while...I've been playing for 30 years now....was more inspired by wanting to play a song I liked...rock is only 3 chords and an attitude anyway...

Agree with Black Tie. My success was learning from fellow schoolmates. Getting a group (called ourselves a band) and grow with it. I went to a guitar school and learned to read music but in later years did not use it. Nowadays tabulature books of an artist of interest helps. If he has a desire to be good.....practice, practice, practice.

I agree also. I took piano lessons as a kid. I didn't like to practice because my teacher had me playing classical and children's songs, while letting my brother play rock. I didn't get to play songs I liked. Tell him that starting out tho, learning to read the music, etc. will be the hard part to get thru. Once he starts playing songs, it'll get more fun. Takes lots of dedicated practice.

Randy........it's great that you are providing him the opportunity to learn to play an instrument. I always wanted to when I was a kid, but we had too many kids and no money. I'll always regret that I didn't.

Here's our basement (that's me on the left in the band pic)... I can remember asking about the trailers when I first started hanging out here, whether or not a guitar and amp would fit in them. I thought I was the only noise maker around here... This message has been edited by jmcant1 on 12-31-2004 at 12:38 PM

Great pics. Nice guitar collection. I have a picture somewhere around the house of Duane Eddy and I on stage at the Grand Ol Opry in 1999. I will look for it and post it (if I can find it).
