PAID JUST 9.95 FOR IT AT BEST BUY, AND FOR JUST 24.95 PER MONTH ALL CALLS ARE FREE INCLUDING LONG DISTANCE. AND FOR EACH PERSON YOU REFER TO THE PROGRAM YOU GET 2 MONTHS FREE. SO IF I CAN FIND SIX NEW PEOPLE THIS NEXT YEAR TO GET THIS NEW VONAGE PHONE, ALL MY PHONE CALLS ARE FREE. MY OLD BILL WAS $75.00+ PER MONTH WITHOUT LONG DISTANCE. READ ALL ABOUT IT AND SEND ME AN E-MAIL SO I CAN REFER YOU. I WILL EVEN CALL YOU SO YOU CAN HEAR HOW GOOD IT SOUNDS HO,HO,HO ------------------ This message has been edited by WAYNEW on 12-24-2004 at 07:51 AM |

VOIP has been around for a long time. I hope it works better than it did when I used it. Sometimes I would get echos, or the call would disconnect. Usually the longer I was on a line the worse it would get. |

The new generation is supposed to be vastly improved from systems available a few years ago. My brother says it is really great, but I have not tried using it myself. |

If you have a fast internet service this system being digital is very good quality, no one yet is able to tell that this is not my normal phone. vast inprovement over the old systems. It is all about knowing when to get into a new technology. ------------------ |

Sounds cool Wayne. I should get that at my Florida place and it would forward my calls and/or voicemail to my desktop or Blackberry. I love technology |

Well I did it, I received my new VOIP service today. The service has vastly improved since I used it last. I signed up with SUNROCKET. It's only $199.00 for the year if you pay up front, plus they send you a dual cordless phone system for free. They are very upfront with their pricing. $199.00/yr total no taxes or hidden fees. They also have a month to month plan if you prefer $24.95 a month plan total with no taxes or fees and you still get the free phones. So since I'm on the $199 plan my phone service really only costs me $16.58 a month for unlimited local and long distance calls within the US, Canada and Puerto Rico. You get two phone numbers, Voicemail, Caller Id etc. I can't tell the difference between it and my landline! I highly recommend it. You can check out the details out at http://www.sunrocket.com if you do decide to sign up please PM me so I can refer you and get some referral points. What about the ability to call 911 and have them identify your address? |

Just one caution for emergency situations. The old POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) is powered by the switches which have backup power. So its a good idea to always keep at least one standard phone (not wireless requiring power) on hand. That way if the power goes out, at least you still have emergency phone service. Janet |

quote: Well, good VOIP has been around for a while so as far as knowing when to get in, you missed the first couple of boats. It just happens to be getting to the average home as coporate usage has brought the cost down and quality up. Depending on your carrier this is not digital all of the way through (broadband=analog). The biggest concern is 911. Most systems allow you to hard code what the local numbers for 911 will be. However, if you travel a lot and still want the 911 functionality, then you may be entering a lot of profile info. If you have a cell phone as well then I would say this is a pretty good thing to hook up with (buy linksys gear). It is nice having my "desk" phone anywhere I have internet access using my PC. |

quote: When you sign up with the service you give them the info to put into the system for 911 calls. So it works just like a regular phone. The only disadvantage is that if your internet connection is down, or you lose power you don't have a phone. It doesn't happen too often in my area. I have a cell phone with me at all times anyway so if I needed to I could call 911 with that. |

I just ordered this. It's a docking station for my cell phone which allows me to use my existing phones in the house over the cell network. I'll be the guinea pig on this one. If it works, so long verizon forever. https://www.anything4wireless.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=31 http:// |
