While we are busy shopping for that perfect Christmas gift, baking cookies, singing Christmas songs, wrapping gifts, putting up our Christmas trees, going to parties and visiting with our friends and families during this holiday season.........please do not forget those who serve in our armed forces who won't be doing any of that this year.........

Say a prayer for them...thank them for what they are doing for their country and say a prayer for those who have been lost in this war and the families who will never have them home for Christmas again..........

If you live near a military base.......invite some soldiers who won't be able to make it home, over for Christmas. When my son was stationed in England, a very kind woman with two young children invited my son and several other soldiers from his unit over for Christmas dinner. She even insisted on them calling home on her phone. As a mother, I can't tell you how much it meant to me to have someone include my son in their holiday plans when we could not have him home. I thanked her myself when my son called home from her house. She invited them back the next year, also.

Don't forget them........... http://www.soldierworks.com/191/untilthen.swf

Last year at this time I was driving past Arlington National Cemetery and saw a young woman sitting in a chair facing a headstone in a new section of the cemetery. She was all bundled up against the biting cold, and wearing a little Santa hat. She was holding a white hankie or tissue to her face as was reading from a letter, presumably to the fallen soldier. I saw this sight for less than 10 seconds and I cried all the way home and that image will stay with me forever.

...war or not, it is a sad time when you are in the military and on the other side of the world at Christmas....I spent Christmas in S.E.Asia in 1972 and 1973.....not the most fun I ever had....you just sorta have the feeling everyone in the world is having fun except you....

...we had a Christmas tree that was about 12" tall and a few gifts(pay wasn't too good either).....it was hot, rainy, humid....no Christmas decorations available except what you made or someone sent from the states, we invited a group of our co workers to our house and had a big home cooked meal for them....a great time was had by all, but everyones spirit was somewhere else that day.....phone calls were nearly impossible to get, and when you did get thru, the rate was $20. per minute.....television was only on about 1-2 hours per day, the radio station was not strong enough to reach outside the perimeter of the base.....the longest 18 months I ever spent.....

MERRY CHRISTMAS to all.......

Not sure if this link has been here before, but this is a nice tribute to our heroes.

I spent 20 years in uniform, and a total of seven Christmases at home during that time.
