Don Zimmer was still playing for Western Hills High School in Cincinnati for my first game. lol A few other guys came out of that school. Russ Nixon and ?? Frey and Pete Rose were all managing at the same time in the Majors and all came from Western Hills. Frey was managing Chicago and I can't think of his first name. His brother is Harry and I know him. Nixon managed the Reds for awhile, too. |

Chuck - don't be so sure the Big Unit [not the one named Monahan] is going to the Yankees YET. He doesn't want to move his family,,they love the Az. lifestyle,,makes a meeger 16M per year here + advertising,,and the D-Backs added Glaus from CA Angles this week plus a 20 gmae winning pitcher from the Braves [can't remember his name]. The D-Backs spent 80M for those two guys and aren't done yet. They can't afford another 110 game losing season, or the fans will be gone from the stands. We'll see what happens??? |

The Sox can have Wells. Greedy bum is 42 and wants a guaranteed contract instead of playing for incentive pay. He got a great deal here in San Diego. He does not even have to travel with the team to away games unless it is a scheduled start. Talks are still ongoing, but noone here will be sad to see him go. |

Hoping our Braves can piece together a pitching staff. Seems to be heading the right way. We lost two 15 game winners and a few big bats to budget cuts. We will miss JD Drew. After the bowls Jan 1 just counting down the days until April. Gordon |

The REDS haven't done much over the Winter. He have a lot of great young outfielders but the pitching is pretty bad. Hard to win without pitching. The imbalance is pretty bad in baseball. They seemed to have fixed it in the NFL. |

Ed,I will be honest, being a diehard Yankee fan, I don't want it to be fixed. They sure take advantage of what rules there are. However it does seem to work in the NFL as anyone can win any year{Bengals-Jets?}. I can see everyones point on this. ------------------ |

REDS got a pitcher today. Things are looking up. The Opening Day Parade is the biggie for the entire year. Less than 4 months away. |

Good riddance Wells. Lets see, December 15th. San Diego 75, Boston 25. For the first time ever, we will be cheering for the Yankees here. http://www.signonsandiego.com/sports/padres/20041215-9999-1s15wells.html

XPguy, I am not giving you a hard time, but what is Wells doing different than the rest of those spoiled rich guys? Last year it was A-Rod etc doing the same thing. Highest bidder. They can hardly live on 5 million a year. Tough life. |

Wow, the Reds signed Eric Milton, Kent Mercker, David Weathers, Ramon Ortiz, Ben Weber and Joe Randa. The REDS will be very competitive this coming year. They may have the best outfield in all of Baseball. You read it here first. |

ED don't get too excited about David Weathers (Ex Met) He only can pitch in situations to 1 or 2 batters. ------------------ |

Chuck, that is one or 2 batters more than the relief corp could pitch to last year. They have a pretty good offense, decent defense and the pitching sucked. Some key guys got hurt and missed major parts of the season. I can see them being very competitve this year. They have some young guns that are flat out good ball players. |

Tom, nothing new in the papers, no rumors. He got hurt again last year and did the re-hab and is supposedly good to go in the Spring. He has really had a rough go of it lately, ever since he came home, in fact. The fans get on his case but he is a typical "thin" fast guy. They are much more susceptible to injuries. I compare them to thoroughbred race horses. Work horses hold up, races horses don't. Eric Davis was similar. Thin, fast, quick hands, etc. It is a shame. Hopefully he will be healthy. he is not a malingering dog. He really has been hurt. He wants to play. |

Well, my favorite team, The A's are sticking to their price limit no matter what. Getting rid of Hudson and Mulder. Over the years they could make up a pretty good All Star team with the people they released. But, they are always competitive even with their meager payroll. Which really goes to show, almost EVERYONE signing multi-million dollar contracts are getting paid more for what they have accomplished, and not so much on what they will accomplish. Just my humble opinion. |

The REDS have a new owner (not finalized) and the Winter meetings are coming up again. REDS still need pitching, have 4 great outfielders and Ken Griffey Jr. is comeback player of the year. |

Ed - the Bengals are playing great football, and you want to talk baseball? I think Wayne in Texas will sell you a super large screen tv to watch the SuperBowl, lol. |

The Bengals are scoring almost every time they get the ball and they continue to intercept 3 or 4 times a game but their defense is still not Super Bowl Champion caliber. The secondary is great but the line, run defense is not all that great. They are definitely for real, just as I stated a couple of months ago. They should have only lost one game, to Indy, and that was a great game to watch, even though they lost. They should have beaten Pittsburgh here 5 or 6 weeks ago. If they continue to win, they will have a home game or two in the playoffs and could even beat Indy in a rematch. I still like Baseball better than football, especially when the REDS are playing well. That has been too long ago, in my opinion. Things will change, I predict. |

The Washington Nationals still don't have an owner although several groups are ready to put down the cash. In the meantime, several Nats whose contracts are up, have signed with other teams. With no owner, the Nats are really handicapped and can't make any big deals to get better players or keep the good ones they have. |
