Does anyone know what this is. I know it is a 1970 350/350 Auto, but what is that thing on the back. It seems to have replaced the normal rear body.

That's called "the hearse-conversion" for vette owners that want to be buried in their car.A similar option is available for Prowler owners and has appeared frequently on these pages. -GRROWL

That was a popular mod to vettes in it's dayThe vette owners 30~40 years ago did to there cars what we are doing to ours..........MODIFY THEM The guy that is painting the Dart has a `64 Vette with 23,683 actual miles that he is working on. The guy bought it new and guess what, he modified it. Put tape stripes down the center front to back including the valances. Put fuzzy black & white fur (looks like rabbit) on the headliner of the removaable top. Skull head on the dask that the eyes light up. The top of the fenders are striped too with white tape stripes. Tony had to do some touch up to fill the holes from the dumby spot lights on the cowl and found someone started to hand pin stripe the car but stopped after about 8" (he thinks the owner started to do it and they looked like cr*p so he put tape on it) The Jan and Dean song about a corvette with 6 tail lights, another popular mod Fender flairs, remove the hidden headlights, put head lights behind a custom grill, rear spoiler and one of the worst mods ever seen on a vette coupe, A CHEAP SUN ROOF The vette wagon looks good if done right. I've seen a few that looked great Before you judge the past look in your garage and ask yourself, "What will everyone think about my car in 30 years"

EXACTLY.....remember the "lace paint jobs"....that was as KOOL as it got...now they look hideous and very outdated.....airshocks, I had my cars raised so high they were difficult to get in and out of....nothing like a 4wd Cuda :....If I remember right, the Vette mod pictured here was sometimes refered to as a "Kammback"....around 1974 there was one in my town and it was painted "pea green"....there was something about it I liked at the time, but not now... .....the only mod that seems to weather the years well are nice wheels..."Cragar SS" mags still look as good today as they did in 1969....

A few more I found on the web. My favorite is the '67 Vette/Pacer combo!

LOVED THE LACE PAINT, I know a guy that has a `70 Charger 500 that is Plum crazy with white top & interior. Back in the mid `70's he had it painted and the guy wanted to do some custom paint. The insets in the door were painted with a LACE table cloth. I loved it then and he still has the car, in need of restoration. I have talked to him about when he does it will the lace be back. That was how the car was and everyone that knows him thinks he should do it. The Crager S/S's a must on any `60's or early `70's car and if it wasn't S/S's then Keystone Classics I was thinking while at work today about the mods the Vette owners done in the 60`s......REMOVE THE FRONT BUMPERS. The vette bumpers looked cool on the car but the vette's without it has such a custom look
