I am an animal lover......always have been. I've only had one dog in my life and after I lost her (she had bone cancer at the age of 6), I was never able to bring myself to get another dog. Maybe someday..........and if I do....it will be another Saint. Her name was Brandy. I've had cats all my life and love them dearly. Right now, I have three Singapuras. We started out with two brothers.......Julius and Caesar... and a year later, we added Sabra (their new sister). Julius is 8 lbs., Caesar is 7.5 lbs. and Sabra is 5.5 lbs. Singapuras are one of the smallest cat breeds........they are beautiful and have kitten personalities all their lives.

After the Disney movie 101 Dalmatians, everyone rushed out and got one, not realizing how challenging they are to keep. Very quickly, it became the number one euthanized pet in shelters across the country. These dogs require enormous amounts of space and exercise and also are prone to quite a few medical problems. We belong to an organization that rescues Dalmatians before they are put to sleep from shelters and help find them suitable homes. We also educate the public on these dogs as pets before they possibly make a mistake. We will only keep three at a time, but believe me, that is enough. Here is Smokey Joe, who got up to 125 pounds after being found abandoned on the streets.

I had 3 litters of dalmations about 12-15 years ago. Nice dogs like you said but they aren't as lovable as people think. I had 2 litters of Great Danes about 20 years ago. Love the breed but they die young also. Exremely sloppy (drooling) My walls looked awful, I was painting every 3 months. If I ever retire to a farm or ranch in the woods or desert I'll get one as a outdoor Dog.

Just checked out this thread and it's great.
After growing up with a Collie mix and a St Bernard Lynne and I have had 4 dogs over 29 years the last one being a Dalmation who we had to put down after 11.5 years and by far the Dalmation (Patty, AKA name Melody's Nik Nak Patty Whack) was the best dog I have and will ever own. After her I don't think I could ever have another dog and if we did get another one it'd have to be another Dalmation. We searched and enterviewed breeders for 6 months before finding her. She wasn't breedding stock due to her size (to large) but had great markings and fantastic temperment (very unusual for Dal's). Man I miss that dog.

We've had pets throughout our lives and both Jane and I are activelly strong supporters of the Humane Society and volunteers(time permitting)to the Wildlife Rescue and Preservation society....it's a great thing to be a part of!
We have a Golden Retriever and a Yorkie....last year added a Military Macaw named Lewis(great pet)....combined with a 200 gallon tank filled with tropical fish!I also set up an outdoor pond a few years back with Japanese Koi(relaxing beyond belief).
You can say we're somewhat pet lovers!

DR PROWLER, I too am a Koi enthusiast, I currently have 3 ponds and quite a few Koi they don't stay still long enough for me to count them. my largest pond is as large as my neighbors swimming pool approx 18'x 24'Feet. largest Koi is approx 28" inches. My wife has 2 Siamese cats and a Pomeranian. I like the fish, decorative, quiet, no mess...

a lot of us have dogs, cats, birds ... all kinds of family pets.

tell us what ya got and why you love them so much. feel free to describe in detail the funny little things that make them special...

myself... i have a long haired black chihuahua, her name is bamy, shes 5 months old and weighs 3 1/4 lbs. I love her because she always wants attention and makes a huge fuss when i get home from work. she also defends the house from all visitors with fierce determination..."3lbs of black fury"...
