this is from todays Halifax Herald newspaper"George W. Bush is coming to Halifax next week to say thank you. the U.S. president wants to aknowledge Americans gratitude towards Canadians who looked after air passengers whose planes were diverted to Halifax and other cities in the immediate aftermath of the terrorist attacks of 9/11. White house sources say the president is aware of the contribution and sacrifices made when almost 7,000 airline passengers were stranded in the city." i guess he is cutting his visit short in ottawa because of expected protests and coming out here for short visit.... i'm going to try to get off work , put on my U.S.A. t-shirt and go cheer the man.... maybe i'll struggle with some protestors myself !!! sometimes just saying thanks makes all the difference... They are demanding a recount in Ohio, honest to goodness. The margin is something like 120,000 votes and it will cost millions to do a hand count, but they are supposedly going to do it. Unreal.

In some states and municipalities I think a recount is mandated by law if the margin is within a specified range. I have no idea what the laws of Ohio require. It may be that no one has a choice on the mattet.

Bob, I think the law is if it is within 1 %. This is not mandated by law. They have to pay $ 10 per precinct, about $ 140,000 but it will cost the taxpayers millions, supposedly. They are claiming some of the votes were not counted, there were fraudulent practices at the precincts, people were denied the right to vote, etc. Jesse Jackson was in town last week stirring the pot some more.
