....from what I heard on Fox news a few minutes ago, there will probably be more people "retiring" from the CBS news department REAL SOON.....upon close inspection, it seems as though the "Tiffany Network" was really just the cheap dimestore variety after all....... Dan Rather is 73 years old and has earned his retirement, I find Dan Rather to have more compassion then any other news anchor person. Take a look at all these so called news anchors, for the most they haven't even been out of there news studios. I say Dan Rather has served this country well and I wish him the best. Al |

A REAL journalist would not have gone forward with those documents nor speak to the senior President Bush in the tone he did (no respect for the office unless his guy is in there). Haven't watched CBS, NBC, or ABC for 10 years now. |

quote: For one, Rush isn't a news journalist. He is an entertainer and makes no bones about who/what he favors. So, no, he wouldn't make a good choice and he probably wouldn't want the job. At least when folks listen to him, you know what you are getting. Rather pretended to be fair and balanced and he never was. The forged docudrama ended up costing him his job! Two, it would be refreshing to watch someone that just reports the news. I don't want their take on it. I don't want them sneering at any president, I don't want them interjecting their views, I just want to hear the story. If one wants to hear a particular political bias, they can change the channel or listen to folks like Rush or Air America. I don't particularly see anything rightious about that, do you? |

interesting reading about Dan Rather. I just glanced at it, but didn't like his sour looking face after all these years. Bye Dan. http://www.ratherbiased.com/ |

Glad he is gone, and no, I don't agree he served his country - he served himself. He was willing to say whatever it took to further his agenda, no matter wether it was true or not. Yes he is from Texas, went to school right here near the Brazos Valley, at Sam Houston in Huntsville. No one here likes him either, because we know him. His so called compassion has been fake from the start and has always been that way. Some people buy that, but then some people still believe the forged document story! I never looked at Rush as a news anchor, he is an entertainer. It's funny some folks will always throw Rush in the mix when they have no other explanation. Look back at Dan and some of what he really has done in the past. I do give him credit for some of the good things he has done, but I take his news cast for what it has always been - his side of the story, right or wrong. |

I agree with Yellow Fever, unfortunately the media is for the most part bias, and you never hear the WHOLE story, only what the writers, write and the editors approve. As they used to say on SNL Ba Buy Dan ! |

Glad he is going,,,,too bad he is waiting until March, 2005. CBS News is already in the dumpster now, with the lowest ratings, and they should exit that old crocodile immediately. Since Jimmy Carter left office, Rather has been the stooge for the liberal left. I found his cold, sour face and his socialist slanted news reports to be unacceptable to me. The topper was when he interviewed Saddam, and I felt he was more on the side of the Iraq's leader Don't let the door hit you in the asz Dan,,,the people have spoken! Go count your money and enjoy retirement. |

Some Election Night 2004 Ratherisms: "Do you hear that knocking...President Bush's re-election is at the door." "This race is hotter than a Times Square Rolex." "His lead is as thin as turnip soup." "This race is humming along like Ray Charles." "The presidential race is swinging like Count Basie." "This race is hotter than the Devil's anvil." "Ohio becomes like a sauna for the two candidates. All they can do is wait and sweat." "One's reminded of that old saying, 'Don't taunt the alligator until after you've crossed the creek.'" "This situation in Ohio would give an aspirin a headache.'' "Bush is sweeping through the South like a big wheel through a cotton field." "What Kerry needs at this point is the equivalent of Tom Brady coming off the bench to rescue him. But it's still too close to call." "No question now that Kerry's rapidly reaching the point where he's got his back to the wall, his shirttails on fire and the bill collector's at the door." "John Kerry needs something on the order of a 55 or 60-yard field goal to win this." (To Joe Lockhart) "I know that you'd rather walk through a furnace in a gasoline suit than consider the possibility that John Kerry would lose Ohio." (To Joe Lockhart) "What about Michigan? It's been out there for a long time. Is that making your fingernails sweat?" "This presidential race has been crackling like a hickory fire for at least the last hour and a half." "Let's see where it goes from here. Round and round it goes, where it stops nobody knows." "We keep talking about Ohio if you've been tuning in and out or you put the baby to bed or you went to pop the cap on an adult, or otherwise, beverage..." "We used to say if a frog had side pockets, he'd carry a handgun." "No one is saying that George Bush is not going to win the election, and if you had to bet the double-wide, you'd have to bet that he'd win." "In southern states they beat him like a rented mule." "If you try to read the tea leaves before the cup is done you can get yourself burned." "We need Billy Crystal to Analyze This" "You know that old song, 'it's delightful, it's delicious, it's de-lovely' for President Bush in most areas of the country." "We had a slight hitch in our giddy up, but we corrected that." "In some ways, George Bush's lead is as thin as November ice." "Put on a cup of coffee, this race isn't going to be over for a while." "You look at the map and say it's all a big Bush victory. But this is one time when your Mother is right, looks can be deceiving." "John Kerry's moon has just moved behind a cloud, as far as Florida is concerned." On Kerry's chances: "To use a metaphor, he's gotta draw to an inside straight. But hey, sometimes you get lucky and hit that straight." "Is it like a swan, with every feather above the water settled, but under the water paddling like crazy?" "What you have here is the football equivalent of a fourth quarter rally by Kerry." The election is "closer than Lassie and Timmy" "Keep in mind they are teetotally meetmortally convinced they have Ohio won." "Vice President Dick Cheney would not have flown all the way out there (Hawaii) overnight and put that lei around his neck and sort of hula-danced, if you will, unless he thought there was a chance of carrying that out there." "President Bush smiling there with his family. He's laid down aces so far." "You can almost hear the GOP (deep breathing sound). We're getting within maybe smelling distance." "We don't know what to do. We don't know whether to wind a watch or bark at the moon." Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), on being congratulated on victory by Rather: "Thanks Dan, I always believe you." Rather: "Now, ladies and gentleman, if you believe that, you'll believe rocks can grow." |

Local CBS affiliate did an online survey last night of what our local viewers thought of Dan's announcement - 76 percent said that they were GLAD to see him go! Like I said - he is from this area - who knows him best! |

First Tom Brokaw...now Dan Rather! He's taking a 60 minute correspondent role instead... The replacement will be? I'd guess John Roberts(White House correspondent)! |

I think the country is getting more united. Jesse Jackson is here in Cincinnati today trying to get a total recount in Ohio. He became a reverend in 6 months so I am sure he can fix the country pretty quickly. Which party is he with? Seems like a very good man! He probably helped get a lot of votes for Dubya. I know I would vote for any opponent he endorses. |
