I'm looking to get my painted wheels chrome plated. Has anyone ever used, or know of someone who has used Western Chrome in Fresno California? They gave me a quote of $179 per wheel. I just want to know that they are going to do a good job, before I send my wheels out to them.

Kraut - email Wildcat [Larry Mayes]. The place that did his chroming was in California, and they did an A+ job.

Kraut:make sure that they understand the inside of the wheel is also finished chrome, I tried to have two rears rechromed after a peel job replacement the chrome shop redid the out side real nice but the inside looked like crap and they refused to redo the inside said it would be to hard now. so buyer beware block-buster ------------------

Larry Lord does not approve of the chromer that did my wheels. He says he has a better chromer, I would check with him.
When I had mine done I made up a paper for them to sign what I expected. I ask for 100 point show chrome on the face and barrel of the wheel. IF YOU DO NOT ASK FOR THE BARREL TO BE DONE IT WILL BE LIKE THE FACTORY WHEEL, CHROMED BUT NOT POLISHED. In My Opinion this is why the factory wheels had so much pittig and peeling problems. With chrome, PREPERATION is the key to a good job. There will be the area the grounding clamp is attached that will not have the plating. They can minimize this Now I will say this, 6 years ago I paid $135 per wheel front, $185 per wheel rear and an extra $50 per wheel for the barrels to be polished and show chrome. Discount tire did the dismount & shipping for me. They also knew what I expected and the dismount/mount went smoothly. They also had requested chromed tape weights to us when they balanced the wheels & tires when they got them back. I talked to the owner of the company several times, the 1st time for about 1/2 hour to get what I got. Are they 100 % perfect. NO, but I think they look damn good and you have to look close to see the imperfections Just some ideas of what to ask for Good luck ------------------ Larry & Sue Mayes

Plate Corp on Batavia Ave in Orange CA I don't have their phone number handy but they are in the 714 area code. I've seen Larry Mayes wheels and they are very high quality but another member tried to use Wheel Concepts and had a horrible time with them. Maybe a different owner or manager? I picked up the set of wheels each of the 4 times Wheel Concepts tried to chrome them. I finally gave up and took the last 2 wheels to Plate Corp and they saved them. I have succeeded in getting the rims professionally polished. At present I'm waiting for my new front tires to come in and then they will be mounted to the polished rims. The rims are wonderful. NO MORE PEALING-. I will try to take some pic.s of them before and after the tire installation. To say the least there extremely nice. In my opinion, this is the way they should have originally done. The inside barrels are much better that any chrome job and the outside "face" really looks rich and proper. The cost for the front ones is 350.oo after a 50.oo electrolytic stripping job to get all the orig. chrome to go away. The rear will be more but I don't have that price yet 'cus I don't have them done yet. Hope this helps, Obi-Wan
