a good reason, not to trust a car dealer.took my 99 to airpark chrysler in scottsdale az.noise coming from engine area.they diagnosed as a rod knock.took pan off and said rod contacting block, and rod bearings worn excessive.called warranty co.they came out and inspected and asked for further teardown which wasnt done, previous owner had nitrous on it ,chrysler found out and voided warranty.tech at airpark told a/m warranty co.about it.a/m warranty co.called chrysler and confirmed, and then refused to pay for new short block, because of previous high performance equip.i agreed to pay for repair.new short block in.car immediately overheats, short block has a blockage inside casting.replaced again.almost 1 month.picked car up,started
engine and not to my surprise same noise still there.took back to airpark to also replace a bunch of screw ups and bolts left out.they also broke rt. h/lite and fried part of wireloom and stripped screws on plug coils, they said get lost and gave me a check for 550.00 as a settlement, which i did not cash.i picked up old block and sent to automotive machine in scottsdale to confirm my worst fears.
nothing wrong w/old block, all clearences perfect.took car to ultimate auto in scottsdale,a bmw specialist, they put car on rack, said noise coming from inside bellhousing.i okd teardown, which means engine removal again.a/m warranty co. called said they would pay, because thats not related to engine.torn down, minor wear on output shaft, shaft lifetime bearing,ha,ha,rusted and no grease.grease all over inside of housing.bearing failure.fixed.noise gone.have spent over 6000.00 and tech at airprk, threw away frt.main cap on old block, which after installing new bearings,i was hoping to sell.another,2000.00 gone. engine useless w/o cap. next step a very good lawyer.i have all documentation and lots photos, and old parts.any body know A good az. lawyer.now its my turn, and dealers dont care if they have a bad reputation or,not.

Hello-WHAT A BUMMER!! My similar hardship story: Bought a 1989 BMW 325is with only 50K miles. The car was in MINT conditon and I got a really good price. I paid the seller and started to drive the car home. The car stalled on the freeway and I couldn't restart it. I had driven it about 20 miles. I had it towed to a BMW shop and was told that the timing belt had broke and the entire engine was distroyed. It cost me $6500.00 for a new engine. The seller did not pay me a cent. The owner's manual stated to change the timing belt every 50K miles. So, I know just exactly how you are feeling.
Take care

Hi Jan,

Sorry to hear that. Is that the purple one you drove to Vegas? It's a good looking KAT, seem to be running great too.

While a bad experience, I don't think it's fair to lump all dealers into the same category.

As with anything, some are horrible, some are fair, some are great. Buyer beware!
