No car for a while - took the car in because it's been running a little hot again. Thought I might need the relay switch or fan replaced. LOL! Unfortunately, radiator has an open seam and needs to be replaced. Ouch! Of course, that isn't the reason the car has been running hot...have no idea what that is yet.

Let's see.....the service advisor told me it would be $1300 for a new radiator and he'd have to order it from Detroit. I rec'd a call from Larry Lord who said the list for a new radiator is $713. I have two messages in to my service advisor friend now...anxiously awaiting his explanation.

UGH!

Deb, they should be able to have it repaired, or better yet ask those that have replaced their radiator if they might sell their stock one that was removed.

Good luck and hope it is a short down time

Debbie,

I called my buddy at the radiator warehouse and I can get you a brand new factory original radiator for $350.00.

The list price for a new radiator from a Chrysler Dealer is $713.00 so you better check real close on the $1300.00 price tag that your dealer is quoting you.
Labor to remove and replace is 2 hours at a shop rate of $80.00 per hour and a couple of gallons of antifreeze for another $15.00 or so dollars just doesn't add up to what you're being quoted.

Deb: Just to reinforce what Larry is saying, I checked with our local radiator shop and got numbers very close to Larry's $540.60 installed and out the door.

well, I apparently misunderstood the quote......we discussed and looks like we're on the same page now. When I'm told something is a price, I don't assume that taxes, labor, etc, etc are included. Doesn't sound like the entire bill will reach $1300 so I'm feeling much better now. And to clarify this situation, I didn't take the car in for a radiator replacement. We had no idea what we were looking for. I will keep you all posted. Thanks for your input...helps me greatly!

Debbie,

Didn’t reply to this earlier as I thought I might catch you in the chat last night. Sorry to hear about being Katless for a while. Hope it’s a shorter service then what they are predicting. The good news it that you aren’t missing out on cruising weather! You always have cruising weather. Drive vicariously though us for a few days!

CW - I can identify with being katless for a while. My two week engine rebuild is turning into a month or more project due to "supplier parts problems"

I guess I have to get my Prowler fix online for awhile longer. Hopefully you will backon the road soon, too!

What "supplier" parts problem? Yeah, yeah, I know the checks in the mail, etc, etc. There are no parts for Prowlers. That is unless you have an inside track.....

OK - I hope this wording sounds better: since the "supplier" has gone out of the way to provide the parts needed (thank you very much) the problem is actually with "the machining processing firm".

As far as no parts for Prowler's goes, I would have to disagree. There are a LOT of parts I wish I could have sprung for on this engine rebuild. I know someone having a mid 60's Rambler done that has REALLY had problems finding parts for the engine and has been waiting an eternity to get his car back to have some fun driving!

Thanks all.....things are improving. After several phone calls, I'm getting a good price on the radiator and the dealership will be handling the installation. Hope to have my car back Monday or Tuesday.

Meanwhile, I'm driving a brand new Chevy Silverado and I love it! So things aren't all bad.
