The Chrysler Group plans to produce a convertible version of the Chrysler Crossfire as soon as Spring 2005, according to sources in the supplier community and at DaimlerChrysler.

DaimlerChrysler plans to show a Chrysler Crossfire convertible concept vehicle at the Frankfurt motor show in September.

The Crossfire convertible, which will have a classic fold-away soft top, is expected to be built alongside the coupe at the Karmann factory in Osnabruck, Germany.

The coupe goes into production in March and will be available in the United States this spring. The plan is to build 20,000 coupes annually.

A new paint plant in Osnabruck is designed to handles 85,000 cars per year, but Karmann also uses the paint plant for the Audi A4 convertible and Mercedes CLK convertible. Said a Karmann spokesman: "There is still some spare capacity."

I really like the Crossfire coupe, especially the fastback look in the rear. Sure would like to see the rear of the convertible.
