Further to the poll question of a couple weeks back regarding concept car - Chrysler has launched the Dodge Magnum SRT-8 Wagon (first of a number of concepts). Looks like this will be produced in 04 as a 05 model. (Supercharged Hemi engine pumping out 450hp).

What do you think?

"In terms of performance, design and function, the Dodge Magnum SRT-8 concept will leave its mark as one of the coolest vehicles on the road," said Zetsche. "It is aimed squarely at the next wave of automotive enthusiasts looking for passionate performance, an all-new proportion and a vehicle you can use for just about anything."

If Dieter says so...

Personally, I'll reserve opinion until after I see one in person. I learned my lesson with the re-styled Viper. Hated the "new" version when it came out, and now, well, it ain't so bad... Different, yes - and I am starting to like it.

One thing I can't help but think - the minivan basically killed the station wagon. Recently, the minivan has taken a back seat to the SUV. Now, the station wagon (sorry, but that's what this is - call it a sports tourer if you want, but it's a STATION WAGON!) re-emerges as the next "hot item". We had THAT 30 years ago!

***LOS ANGELES -- First of all, don't call the Dodge Magnum SRT-8 a station wagon -- even though it's the spittin' image of a jaunty family hauler. DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group prefers "sports tourer"... ***
OPPS, I just did!

If the Magnum is the production ready concept vehicle for this year, I'm disappointed. I was hoping for something more in tune with the concept Charger R/T or Hemi-C-300N in rear wheel drive configuration. THESE could be production ready as well, and in my opinion sell alot better than a station wagon. (Now watch, I'll be buying a black one of these in 2004...) It will be interesting to see the final production version though.

At my age, just can't imagine buying a Station Wagon, and now with that much HP, as can't use the speed most places and would prefer something that get over 20mph. Just my 2 cents worth.

The more I look at it, the more I think it doesn't look that bad. And while this isn't saying much, it is the best looking wagon out there. There certainly are a lot of wagons in the pipeline from many manufacturers, we will see if sales follow or not.

My guess is we will see a fair number of concepts from DC over the next week (and hopefully announced production of 300N Hemi Convertible and the Charger).

I think the back end is a dead ringer for the Monte Carlo, minus the little arc at the top of the trunk lid.
it will probably look a lot better in RED. lol

Interesting, definitely a station wagon.
I will pass on this for sure.
