My First Serious Post of 2002……..

Mr. Cat,

No one has given you more respect than the "Old Man" from California. Perhaps, there are those that may think, with some just cause, that I have a rather jaded outlook on birthdays since I recently hit the 116 year old mark.

Anyway, my point is that with over 2000 members of this association is it possible that the birthday thing has gotten out of hand? You post a message, and then twenty people say happy birthday and then the whole thing repeats itself for two to three others.

I am sure, that for the most part it is wonderful for the recipient, but with the vast numbers of members it has gotten to be a lot of work and a significant consumer of bandwidth.

Perhaps, if you don't think that it should be eliminated, you could have a separate section for birthdays and then in that way if you don't want to participate you could skip that section.

Frankly, the whole thing seems like too much work....

The Old Man

When January 1, 2003 comes around we should wish everyone a happy birthday for the year and if your friend has a birthday you can write them directly via e-mail. What do you think?

wow old man....I have to agree with you on this one! While it's a nice thing to do and I'm sure many people like to receive the happiest of wishes, it does get pretty crazy and goodness knows we don't want anyone to be offended if they are overlooked or worse yet, if someone doesn't make a post with happy birthday wishes. Since the majority of us have legitimate e-mail addresses, I like the idea of sending birthday emails. Another idea.....and maybe should be in the "suggestion" area but since all these active members are registered on POA, why not list your birthday next to your car information? Or add them to the monthly calendar?

A/C has done a great job and I'm not trying to take away from that. However new ideas and ways of doing things should always be considered.

A/C............why don't you put up a birthday post at the beginning of the month and list all of the people who have birthdays during that month?

I am glad that people are expressing their opinions about the birthday wishes in the OFF TOPIC section. I will read all the posts and leave this open until the 29th so that everyone has a chance to vent their opinion. I understand that some people enjoy celebrating their birthdate, while others would rather ignore that date. I will have a open mind when finally reading all the posts on this thread, and then make a decision. I will continue to fulfill all the birthdays sent to me and recognize those owners through the end of December, 2002. Please make those few remaining people a birthday wish, as I don't want them to feel slighted because of this thread.

Remember that the OFF TOPIC DISCUSSION FORUM states:
this forum is for lively social discussions and bantering.

Thank you for expressing your opinions and ideas,,,,,please continue to do so.

Larry - birthday wishes are nice to receive, but I believe having a monthly listing or a link to a "birthday calander" so people can email birthday wishes to their POA freinds would suffice.

Larry,

I also agree that posting the birthdays once a month should be sufficient.

I agree with the "monthly" concept. It keeps the spirit and intent of the greeting without the overwhelming amount of work.

Now, what about those us us Leap Year babies who only have a birthday every 4 years?

I would suggest you all send really nice Prowler-related gifts to those us us not fortunate enough to have a birthday each year. (lol)

A/C - you can give a new hairy coat

Ed - you can provide hair care tips

I'll gladly give Super Bowl tickets, assuming the Vikings will be playing - D'oh. Nevermind.

The list is endless!

The concept could even be taken one step further and setup a calendar similar to the events calendar and just show all the birthdays there. Those that are interested would just have to bring up the calendar. No posting at all would be necessary then.

A Birthday calendar is easily doable, but it would require a volunteer to keep it up to date.

In thinking about this today..here is what I think.

I do a newsletter for the local car club we're in and we have a section that has each members birthday in it. This lets everyone see who's B-day is in the month.

If we could have a place (Calendar) with list of names for the month would be better than each persons listed seperately. If someone is unintentionally left off it could be added before the end of the month and no hard feelings.

Actually anyone could enter their own birthday in the calendar if they so desired, so there would be no reason for hard fellings or anyone feeling left out. If someone wanted to send them a birthday wish, they could email it from the link on the calendar.

Ed looks like your "it"!LOL I'll email you later this week with the details on maintaining the calendar.

I don't like the idea of a list of birthdays. Everyone is going to have one so what good will it do to post each persons date for all to see but to beg for comments.

I can see "popular posters" getting all kinds of "Happy Birthday" greetings because everyone can see the date of their birthday. Some people I am sure won't be able to resist giving the "HB" post.

The off topic section will just be full of HB well wishers everyday. I bet everyday will be somebody's birthday or their wives or kids . . . . cat or dog.

I'm trying to get you off the hook Ed.

Oh, btw, Happy Birthday to everyone that is going to have a birthday in 2003.

I figured with all of my computer skills that I was a natural. After everyone sees how well I do at this job, the birthdays will be gone in 2004. lol
We could still have someone step up who really wants the job. If you want the job, speak up.

Ed - I think Al wanted the job,,,,then thought about it and changed his mind and said something about posting in the wrong place. I like the way he snaked out of it

Jim Clayton - I think you misinterrupted the plan. There will not be any posts in the OFF TOPIC area regarding birthdays, just a calendar listing of the people having a birthday in a given month. You can email a person direct to wish them a happy birthday, if you so desire.
