for hauling May(mom)around.... Do they work ok in the snow? The 580 hp 2 wheel drive truck in the snow is a no-no, its a hand full just in the rain,,,,

I love driving in the snow, when I lived in Indy last time I had a front wheel drive car(caddy) and worked great,,,so, I need a car that is easy for May to get in and out of and to take her and her friends to the movies or what ever...

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

The new turbo PT, just might fit the bill, I just need some help from you guys.

Thanks

PS, 25 days and counting to the move back to Indy.

Gary: Craig (PTLeftTurn) used his all last winter with no problems. Ours is, of course, not a turbo and it has a standard transmission, but I think they do fine in the snow.

Gary, My dad said a little bit, but just for the record, I've had my car all over the place in the snow and it works fine. I had it on a mountain skiing in WV and never had a problem with the snow. I think that the standard transmission had alot to do with that, but I think that its a great snow vehicle. It has alot of space too and anyone can get in and out of it with no problem. I haven't test driven the Turbo yet, but I would say that either the turbo or non-turbo standard PT is a really good bet.

GaryC -

Since you haven't seen any midwestern (Indy) snow for a while, go with a Jeep Liberty, similar money, but 4-wheel. Most front-wheel drive cars/trucks are great in 2-4" snow, but pushing snow isn't their bag, when the snow get deep enough to lift the front end. JMO

Gary, the seat height and the wide door opening is ideal. I have a friend who had hip and then knee surgery and I brought him home from the hospital due to the easy access. I have an automatic PT and got it last Dec. but I don't think we had any snow last winter and if we did it was not a problem. I don't know how it does in the snow but it is a very comfortable vehicle with plenty of room. I drove Richard's turbo and it is definitely a lot quicker. Mine is so slow it would have to be good in the snow, now that I think about it.

Thanks Ed, the throttle has a hinge on it, Right? LOL

Mom hates getting into the fast diesel, but she loves the speed, I guess it runs in the family.

I would do the auto, easier for resale.

thanks again everyone,

Gary, if you are going for an automatic transmission, you will need the turbo.....without it the automatics are real dogs. Especially if you get into hill country.

we have 2 PT Cruiser and the dogs run just fine in flat Indiana (no turbo and both AT)

last year we had very little snow. No matter what you drive if you know how to drive it is OK in the indiana snows

What happened to the VW? front wheel drive and should be good in snow.

Have to agree with ED on entry, Cruiser is very easy to get in and out of, now if they would have put that damn heated seat switch on the dash

No Gary, they do not. We finally found one in Erie, PA equipped the way we wanted it. Wildcat and I have had a running disagreement about the power of the PT. In the hills of western PA, that Automatic just doesn't run.

Was thinking about buying one for Dew Drop....

Those things look like they will seat a lot of people and I was a thinking about one for Dew Drop. Thought that a "woody" version would be a great beach machine and I could store my board on top. Problem was that they do not have a left mechanism available and at 116 years old it is a bit hard to lift my board on and off the machine.

I like them because they sure look like they would hold a lot of fresh stuffs and a man of my reputation needs a vehicle that can hold my women. As far a snow goes, I don’t know so I called Scum Ball the Wealthy one and he said they were great. He tried to sell me one for $5,000 over list so I passed…gas and left.

As it turns out we settled on a Hummer and now she is once again looking at cars. I'll keep you posted. Gotta run as the World Series is on and I gotta coach SFO.

Later,

Scot

Gary,

I have a 2001 with the stick and it flies. I have no trouble squealing the tires in 1st and 2nd gear. The key is to keeep it in it's power range (3500-5000 rpm). I would like to see how it does against the Autostick Turbo (Richard?????). I think there is a huge difference in performance between the stick and the auto. If I got the turbo version, I would wait for the stick being released in January. I also drove the Turbo at the Black Tee test track and it was NICE!

Big Guy We got two PT's out here in the igloo country they handled fine in our wet snow last year. They are the most popular vehicle around here, there's like a cult of old people driving them they will come up beside you and lots will start waving at you so hard it's a wonder their hands don't fall off

KenG, was the turbo that you drove an auto or a stick? If the answer is auto, was it still pretty peppie or would you get another stick?

thanks

Gary, I think he is indicating the turbo stick won't be out until January. I drove Richard's turbo automatic. I have a terrible left knee that needs to be replaced so I am not interested in a stick.

We recently purchased an Inferno Red PT for our younger daughter and she loves it but would definitely encourage the new Turbo for you & Mom! Call if you have any other questions regarding it.
