When we got home from Colo. I turned on the computer (Dell 4300) that is 8 months old. I smelled something burning. I called Dell and they told me they would ship a new mother board and power supply but we were leaving for the Smoky Mtns. The following Wed. they installed the two new parts and still no computing. They then determined I need a new RAM and it would be here the next day. A diff. tech showed up and it was the wrong RAM. He ordered a new one. He said he would be back the next day (Fri). No one showed up. I called late in the day and got a new tech and he said he had to go to his other job but would be here at 10 AM Sat. He called at 10:30 and said he would be a little late. He got here at 12:30. He had the correct RAM but that didn't fix it. He could not order parts on Sat. and we would have to wait until Monday. They sent me a new keyboard, which I plugged in but it didn't fix it. I called Dell and they said they would send another motherboard and processor and it would be here Wed. Then the mouse would not work but they would get me one by today. I went to Best Buy and bought one last night. Then I discovered I did not have access to the cable. They sent a tech today and installed a new port or card and I AM BACK. That didn't take long did it. WHO recommended DELL???? It was all under warranty and I have a lot of new parts and the key board is no longer dusty. I guess I am way ahead.

Glad to hear your back. Alley Cat's been moping around the board, pretty much acting like he had to put his favorite dog down. I'm sure seeing you back will cheer the old chap up.

Hi Ed, Sorry for all the trouble you have had with the Dell! We have had our Dell for almost three years and have never had a problem so we can't even say that the Dell service folks are good or not. In fact, I hope we never have to see or have a Dell service person here. Now that I've said that, the darn thing will probably crap out. If it does, we will fly you here to fix it for us, okay?? Thanks folks. It had worked perfectly up to the time I left and seems to be fine now. It was a comedy of errors for a little while, though.

Ed, I confess - (to a fomer Judas Priest roadee -Imagine that!) to recommending Dell. I said the computer was great, warranty is great, didn't say anything about the service plan you bought. KMART warranty plans aren't quite what they used to be. Glad you're back in the saddle - or any other leather products you might likeYou're Dell pal

I actually still like the Dell. They have an archaic system of sending someone to look at the computer and then ordering one part and coming back the next day. They should have parts locally but I guess with so many models it would be next to impossible to have everything in stock. It could have been worse, it could have been a heart surgeon that was missing the part he really needed.
