While I was at the plant today, I was able to observe the last four 2002 Vipers coming off the line. They will be cleaning up the line and getting ready to build the new generation Viper! One of the gentlemen there made the comment about how different it was compared to the hoopla and fanfare that the Prowler got at the end of it's production. No one was there to mark the passing of the current Viper generation. He stated that no car has ever gotten the tribute that the Prowler got and thanked the POA again for the recognition and honor the Prowler and the craftspeople got that day. They haven't forgotten that day.........and I don't think they ever will.

That's true, Ray, but obviously they felt it was the end of a style that was special to them. 2003 is much different.............. It is sort of the end of an era. It sure helped to rejuvenate Dodge brand!! |

There was a significant change in style when they added the GTS as well ... but still not the "end" of production ... but I know what you are saying ... if it were a Corvette, there would have been a crowd there to bid farewell to a body style ... just says something about the Viper owner as a true car enthusiast I guess .... LOL |

I visit the viper forums quite often and from what I picking up, many viper owners feel betrayed by the 2003 body style. Their opinion is it doesn't make the car look unique. Perhaps this had something to do with the lack of attendance. |

The feelings about the new 2003 body style are mixed. Personally, I don't like it. I think it lost its "bad a$$" look! I think it just looks like another european convertible.......Daimler influence? Conservative? |

They shoulda made it look like a prowler and called it a viper....... then there would be no mixed feelings on the looks. John |

YEP - I agree POA people are a special group. As far as the 2003 Viper goes. I like the fact that it has a real convertible top and other creature comforts plus more power. I believe going to a conventional hood and fender set up as well as styling that looks more like a next gerneration Vette than previous Viper has disappointed many Viper people. Plus - how would we (Prowler Owners) feel if they had changed the bodywork, added a V8 and/or 5 speed and come out with Prowler Generation 2? Marty ------------------ Driving my Dream |

I like both new and old Viper styles, way cooler than the C5 Vetts... |

You have all just said what is so important about the Prowler. They are all alike and so there is no newer model to detract from the perfect cruiser! Not so for the Corvette, Viper, etc. Better buy one now while there are a few of these unique vehicles available folks. |

I was speaking with one of the local Viper guys today... He told me one of the Viper Regions is visiting CAAP tomorrow... They were suppose to be there for the last Viper models roll-off the line... However, earlier this week, they had a call that the last Vipers were completed... So, they decided to continue the trip & visit CAAP anyway. They will have a tour... I'm sure there are lots of Vipers around for them to see... May even be a Prowler or two around... ------------------ |

Laddie....... I took a visitor to the plant yesterday....the reason for my trip. He is the V.P. of OEM Relations for SEMA. He recently purchased a used Viper roadster and wanted to see the plant and go shopping. I took him back to the shipping room. The last four Vipers were at the end of the line (see my pics). The only Vipers that are in the plant right now are all red. If I had to guess how many were there....I would guess 100-150. I only saw one yellow roadster. There was one gold Prowler in there and it had an "M" tag on it. That was all there was.............. |

I took this one at the plant one day. It was one of the cars done for the auto shows, I believe. |

lavka, I think an M tag is a manufacturer's tag. I am sure CJ will confirm or correct eventually. |

I saw one of the last 2002 Reds with white stripes in person yesterday at dealer... This Red really looks nice. Seems to be different shade (compared to old red). Seems to be closer to original Prowler Red... |

Sorry..........yes, an "M" tag is a Manufacturer's plate. It usually has three numbers before the "M" and three after it.....example: Used to be that dealer plates were the same but with a"D" in the middle. Haven't looked a dealer plate lately, so they may be different now. This message has been edited by CJ on 06-29-2002 at 10:38 PM |

ProwlerOrange2001 hit the nail on the head, at least for me. The "new and improved Viper" is a let down. Don't get me wrong, more horsepower is great. Its just the body style and compromises DC has allowed. It lost its true form and is nothing to celebrate. I own a GEN I Viper and it doesn't have A/C or any of the options, not even outside door handles. Even the so called convertible top was an after thought to design. I feel the car was made to be a production race car not a high priced sports car. I'm a purist with my Viper and my Prowler. I wouldn't like it if DC had decided to change the Prowler either. I definitely would not celebrate it. Just think if they had decided the Prowler needed more leg room and changed the front end....no front fenders that move with the tires and the front end squared. Don't like, won't celebrate it and prefer not to acknowledge the change. JMHO Howard P.S. Back in Hawaii and glad to be out of the desert! |

From 1988 I watched the Viper work it's way to production. I was 21 in 88' and only dreamed of one day getting one. I have always wanted a Viper. I never did get one. When I bought my Vette I thought it was one step closer to the Viper. But I realized something along the way. The Prowler is the car that captured my excitement. I finally was able to afford that Viper last year... I was looking at a Black 99' GTS w/ 3k miles. The day I went to drive it and make a deal I was so excited. As I drove it, I quickly felt a little dissapointed. It was cool, but the Prowler I rented many times was much more of a entertaining ride. I passed on the Viper and began working on finding a Prowler. After joining this club I found much more enthusiasm. Prolwer owners seem to have something different inside. Its not about ego or power... it's about having fun with one of the wildest cars to come from any manufacture. Yes we Prowler owners are different. Thats part of what make the Prowlers the exciting and fun cars they are. I am so glad I not only got my Kat instead of the Viper, I'm happy I found this site. The new Viper is cool... but it's just lost some of the excitement the original had. ------------------ This message has been edited by C5 Frank on 07-03-2002 at 09:40 AM |

CJ--------the thing I liked best about the picture you took of the silver viper and the Yellow Prowler is that the people seem to be looking at the Prowler and no interest in the viper, great camera work CJ Happy Prowlin |

The original GTS style is "it" for me. The Viper board voted overwhelingly that the new SRT style just doesn't get it. seems many are Very dissapointed, oh well. However...DC did get it right when they did the Red w/ White stripes on the final GTS. Love it! I will have a 2nd Gen GTS Viper at some point in time! It's on my "Must Have " list! Alex |
